BAGHDAD, Iraq - Government officials on Monday reported that 16,273 Iraqi civilians, soldiers and police died violent deaths in 2006, a figure larger than an independent Associated Press count for the year by more than 2,500.

The tabulation by the Iraqi ministries of Health, Defense and Interior, showed that 14,298 civilians, 1,348 police and 627 soldiers were killed in the violence that raged in the country last year.

The Associated Press accounting, gleaned from daily news reports from Baghdad, arrived at a total of 13,738 deaths.

and who the heck cares how many residents are killed.

We should have carpet bombed ala WWII. made it a punitive action. thats what they respect there. Not compassionate conservatism...not being kinder or gentler.

The AP has been playing this numbers game to get even with President Bush because one of their workers got caught working for the terrorist.

Thanks for the link.Still, the last time I know of that they went to the "police spokesman" Jamil Hussein was when they got busted for the story about the 6 Sunnis torched as they left the mosque right around Thanksgiving. Either they owe a full expose' and retraction or they should continue to use him as a source, as they say they have full confidence in him.

From your link...

"Iraq has a population of 28,807,000, which puts the murder rate at 56 per 100,000."

In 2005, Baltimore had a murder rate of 42 per 100,000

In 2005, Detroit had a murder rate of 39 per 100,000

In 2005, Washington DC had a murder rate of 35 per 100,000

http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/05cius/data/table_08.html

Is it time to cut and run from the quagmire in these cities?"

As I already said on the previous thread:

The media/Left/UN was always talking of an average of 100 deaths daily. That would be 36,500 deaths. The actual number is 16,273. Thats less than half.
Also included are Soldiers and Police. The statistics (even from leftist/anti-war sources) show that the vast majority are young men who died in gunfire. It's safe to say that a large number of insurgents, terrorists and militiamen are inlcluded.

The numbers defy the MSM lies.

What? It's 650,000 civilians killed in Iraq since 2003.

That's what the MSM says, and they never lie!

"Slightly more than Baltimore ..."

Baltimore is a city, Iraq is a country. Let' compare Baltimore to Baghdad, Mosul, or Fallujah for a fairer comparison. And let's not forget that Baltimore doesn't have 170,000 armed-to-the-teeth Coalition forces walking around trying to restore order. Also bear in mind that the "murder rate" in Iraq does not include the deaths caused by the war in general, (insurgents/terrorists killed by Coalition forces - Coalition forces killed by terrorists). Not many folks are going to buy into the bogus comparison of "murder rates" in Iraq and Baltimore. Iraq is a violent, bloody, wartorn hell-hole, no matter how many bogus comparisons people may make.

If you really want to get scared think of this.

The Dummycrats elected Baltimores Mayor to be State Governor as a reward for having a "Killer" city.

Yes: a governor elected by the Baltimore and Prince Georges county citizens.

Two of the most corrupt and violent portions of the State elect their corrupt Mayor and promote him to Governor of the State. Thank You Dummycrats.

14,298 civilians

How is anyone able to say how many civilians were killed in Iraq, when you cant tell a civilian from a Terrorist until the firing starts?.

Philadelphia (just a single city = 1.12 ((murders)) not just deaths per day for 2006! Add up the murder rate in all US cities and we knock'em off just as fast if not faster!

Most likely 1/2 of that number are vigilante killings. Not all of these deaths is a bad thing since some of it is rooting out the enemy.

Pray for W and Our Amazing Troops

They won't retract anything from "Jamil Hussein" because they've lied to themselves so much that they've convinced themselves he's for real.

More than 45 people die in car accidents in the USA daily.

Yet we do not hear much liberal caterwauling about that. (LOL)

Bingo! We have allowed some of the "sectarian" violence, those in the name of "Death Squads", because in some cases this is the way they have and always will deal with certain crimes. We were no different in our Revolutionary War.
