Libyan leader says Eid al-Adha holiday opportunity to bring three main monotheistic religions closer together

Roee Nahmias Published: 12.31.06, 15:13

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi called to “allow Jews and Christians to visit Mecca and circle the Kaaba (cubical building surrounded by the Sacred Mosque).”

These days Muslims all around the world are marking Eid al-Adha, the most important Islamic holiday. Some three million people have made the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Gaddafi believes the holiday offers a great opportunity to bring the three main monotheistic religions closer together. “Everyone has the right to stand atop Mount Arafat and circle the Kaaba,” he told the media.

“The Kaaba is not meant for Arabs alone, but for people of all continents; the mistake was that they granted this privilege only to Mohammad’s descendents, but the Quran does not support this.”

The Libyan leader warned of the dangers of exploiting religion, warning that it could foster terror and destruction.

Half a year ago Gaddafi made similar remarks saying that the Kaaba is the house of God and all the people of the world should encircle it when Prophet Mohammad returns.

"We are the followers of Prophet Mohammad but our position today is wrong because we are preventing them from worshiping God and encircling the Kaaba," he said.

Gaddafi criticized Saddam Hussein's execution saying it was worthless and irrelevant.

"Any Jews or Christians who have the slightest reason to go to Mecca, raise your hands..."

This infidel needs to take a whizz. Hey, if Ozzie can pee on the Alamo.......
That and take a chunk off that black rock and turn it into knives for butchering pigs at a stockyard.

Will airline "Barf bags" be supplied. United and American seem to be the choice of terrorists. Definitely not U.S. Airways.

OK...this isn't necessarily bad. It is the exclusivity and the "follower or infidel" mentality at the heart of the extremist hatred.

We hosted a student from Jordan...a Muslim. He was absolutely shocked that he was "allowed" to attend church with us.

I would much prefer "evangelical" Muslims to terrorists.

Why in the hell would I want to hang out with a bunch of sweaty terrorists and throw rocks at a rock? No thanks, I'm going to disneyworld instead...

I agree with you completely. On second thought, however, Kadaffy's proposal must surely be unthinkable act of desecration to the Mohammedans. I wonder what's up.

Gaddafi is just begging to be relevant again, even if he has to risk his head to do it.

We can use another Infidel collaborator like Ghaddafi.

Apparently he doesn't read the Koran very much.

Ch4 "4.144": O you who believe! do not take the unbelievers for friends rather than the believers; do you desire that you should give to Allah a manifest proof against yourselves.

And in case you missed that in Ch4 here it is again in Ch5: "5.51": O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not guide the unjust people.

So you see you should not be treating well Infidels . The last thing you should be doing is encouraging the infidel pigs and swine to come in to a sacred place like the Kaaba.

For this outrageous idea, I am sure the Wahabbis will have you on the hit list with King Abdulla of Jordan, and Ayatollah Sistani of Iraq.- Tom

Some muslims would be calling him an apostate by now

I don't think anyone needs daffy Gaddafi's permission to convert to Islam (which is what he's really suggesting)

Whatever keeps the monotheistic religions from killing each other in the name of God works for me.

I'm tired of the supposed religious leaders using people like they were tools to be used to further their sometimes twisted concept of God's religion, not to mention their own vanity and comfort.

Yeah, we could make this work. Put up a few big-screens with 24-hour sports, maybe make a little book on the side on the camel races...heck, we've turned miserable little holes in the desert into paradise before. Think Vegas, baby.

"I have three questions for you:
Is Hinduism a "monthistic religion"?
Have you ever heard of Kashmir?
What do most conflicts, including Kashmir, Israel, Ethiopia, etc. have in common?"

No, not really; any religion that believes and practices peace and the betterment of the human situation is ok by me; however you will find that all religions have been co opted by men, and none of these men really care about anything other that improving their own situation here on earth and pretty much nothing else!

We are at a point where religion will subjugate man forever, or, by the actions of a few, be looked upon as a sadistic ancient belief that has as it's only goal, dragging mankind back into the caves we have fought to crawl out of for the past several Milena. It's really their choice.

Personally, I have come to the conclusion that any religion that is administered by a hierarchy that either subjugates mankind by living better than the most impoverished or demands the sacrifice of humans for their benefit, or requires all to believe as they wish, should be shuned and damned to the trash heap of history.

Does this mean a Bible or the Torah will be allowed to circle the Kaaba?
