What is going on with Rick Warren? Is he becoming too impressed with himself? Some of the headlines appearing lately are

"Hallelujah! Christians Discover Global Warming (Bill Press Barf Alert)"

"KMART SEEKS "REVIVAL"; REPLACES MARTHA WITH RICK WARREN" Replacing Martha's line with Hawaiian shirts.

And for those who don't agree with Warren's opinion on Obama, they are asked to leave Saddleback Church.

Owning a church is better than most businesses. More money can be made fleecing the sheep with a collectoion plate than from a legitimate taxpaying business.

...Warren tells each exactly what he believes they want to hear.

2 Timothy 4

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

I liked his book, very much. It seems many are not interested in God's purpose for them, they have decided their purpose is to attack this Warren guy. Accuser of the brethren comes to mind regarding these vile accusers who call themselves part of the body of Christ. Seems there is a movement amongst some churches [one denomination] in particular to denomize this man.

BTW- I read even more than 3 translations of the bible and I don't care if you give your petty little stamp of approval or not. Maybe some of you can start your KJV 1611 only rant now in his thread and show yourselves for the idjoits you are. :-)

I do not agree with Warren's politics if true. But I must conclude that with such a vile attack after attack on Warren that much that is being said about his politics may not be true. A truly disgusting thread - Christian yea right!

I've read 2/3rds of the posts on this thread but can't read them all.

I was not aware of the Syria comments when I watched (most of) Tim Russert's interview with Rick Warren two Sundays ago. Had Warren made these comments prior to the interview? There was no mention on Meet the Depressed.

By the way: I read Saddleback's Statement of Faith on their website. It's basically a re-worded and reorganized Catholic Nicene Creed (which we recite at every mass). (Well......okay, it's the Nicene Creed minus the word "Catholic".....). At least on paper the church checks out. LOLOL

Converted Catholic (Christian) Megadittoes!!!

Rick Warren endorses the New World Order "UN Millennium Goals"/"ONE Campaign", and wants to make them the center of the Christian Church.

He and Episcopal ultra-heretic Katharine Jefferts-Schori are two sides of the same coin!!!!

Completely dienchaned with Mr Purpose Driven!... I am only sorry I already spent the $50 (book + Audio version of it), because I now know, I will never see him the same way.

I admire his desire to do good!... no question. BUT he has to be smart to know that when you bring such a huge "political charged" person as Obama - now, consider the timing - into his formula, then his actions will take political overtones, inevitably. And this is what I DON'T LIKE.

He says (Rick Warren) that it is impossible to agree with everyone on every issue (even w his wife), and he tries to find common ground with anyone willing to help... Makes "some" sense... But did he have to get "The New Messiah" into the picture? NO! bad miscalculation! instead of "uniting" he actually "divided." Obama represents SOMETHING!... His views have VALUE (pro-abortion, pro-homosexuals, a "liberal-Christian, etc), because of his recently acquired status (Rock start status, they call it), and his potential to be president... Because of that Mr. Warren, you should have kept him out of your plans... I'm surprised you did not see this, imo. Oh.. You wanted a black person? There plenty of others you could have chosen.

As a traditional Anglican, I sometimes feel ill equipped to comment on trends among the mega-church movement, so I posed the question to a good friend who is in the evangelical / Southern Baptist camp, to get his perspective. Here is his reply:

"My belief is that the root of the situation is simple.
They are "seeker friendly". You've probably heard
the phrase. On the surface it seems good. Let's get
them in, win them over, and do it without being
offensive.

Well, the problem is that the Word of God is
offensive. It is a stone of stumbling. It is sharper
than a two edged sword, rightly dividing the word of
truth. The truth is offensive. Let's get them in,
win them over, and do it without being offensive.

The article itself is well written, and very
insightful. The writer uses the phrase, "...tells
each what he believes they want to hear." This is
extracted straight from scripture. The biblical
reference is to the church with itching ears, wanting
only to hear what they want to hear. They don't want
to hear, "...be ye holy as I am holy", with Holy here
meaning set apart, and separate. The seeker
sensitives really are satisfied with blending in with
the back ground, and not being able to distinguish
them from the rest of the crowd.

Additional insight is provided through the reference
to Willow Creek Church. This church is considered to
be at the heart of the "seeker sensitive" movement.

When you go to Saddleback's home page, you can see it
is about people, and not about God. Salvation is not
even mentioned in the first page of what we believe.

So, there you go. I believe Rick Warren is a great
supporter of the seeker friendly movement. It is
interesting to note that you really don't see Franklin
Graham (now there's a guy that gets the Gospel out)
aligning himself with Rick Warren.

Sorry I wrote so much, but I feel strongly about this.
These are the people that diminish the work of the
Cross and take away from the Gospel."
