When Saddam was hanged, Bush slept

Crawford (Texas), Dec 30: US President George W Bush learned at 6:15 pm on Friday (0545 IST Saturday) that Saddam Hussein would be executed in a few hours but was asleep when the ousted dictator was hanged, a spokesman said.

"The President concluded his day knowing that the final phase of bringing Saddam Hussein to justice was underway," said deputy White House press secretary Scott Stanzel.

Asked whether that meant Bush was asleep when Saddam and two former members of his regime were hanged in succession in the early morning hours of Baghdad, Stanzel replied, “That's correct."

Bush, here on his Texas ranch to usher in 2007, would have been awakened "if there had been a departure from the planning" but "the execution went forward as planned," Stanzel told reporters.

White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley briefed Bush by telephone at 6:15 pm Friday (0545 IST Saturday) on "the entire process" of bringing Saddam to the gallows, said Stanzel.

Hadley had himself learned about from the US ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, who had been informed by Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki "that the execution would go forward in the next few hours," he said.

The White House put out a statement from Bush after Saddam's execution, but the US President will not speak out in person said the spokesman.

He slept, so the libs will spin it as he's being casual about someone's death; if he were awake, they'd say he was a bloodthirsty SOB.

So what, I slept when the Bears won the Super Bowl (but it was alcohol-induced).

Good for Bush. There is no point revelling in any person's death, even if they were a mass murderer-tyrant.

"was asleep when the ousted dictator was hanged" - sounds okeydokey to me. The world is a better place today without that dirtbag. And for all the gas it has given the transnational progressives in the media, it's better still. Anyone who objected to the process or the result is now suspect to the average joe, since the crimes were so obvious.

He slept the good sleep... secure in the knowledge that he had been central in the elimination of a great evil.

when the Bears won the Super Bowl

Arghh...my memory of that game consists of a bet that supposedly didn't get placed on my behalf.

I had a customer in Viva Las Vegas that told me she'd put down $20 for me - there were odds of something like 24 to 1 that Refrigerator Perry would not score a TD - he did, and I "won" quite a few bucks.

...until said customer told me she hadn't gotten over to the Sportsbook as planned. She did mail me back my 20, though - about a month later.

You mean the President of the US should be engaged in a "death watch" for a tin horn, small time despot who amounted to no more than a pimple on an elephant's butt?
