Deputy shoots self in foot trying to fight off pit bull attack

A deputy constable shot himself in the foot Thursday morning while trying to fend off a pit bull attack, authorities said.

Deputy C. Menefield was in the process of evicting a tenant from a residence in the 13900 block of Wrigley when the man opened the door and allegedly ordered a dog inside the home to attack, said DeAnn Collins, a Precinct 7 spokeswoman.

She said the pit bull lunged at Menefield's leg. As the deputy tried to kick the dog away, he fired his gun, shooting himself in the left foot, Collins said. The dog ran back inside at the sound of the shot and was later taken to the city pound.

Menefield, a five-year veteran, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital. He was released in good condition and was recovering Thursday night at home, Collins said.

The dog's owner, 41-year-old Alan Trevino, was charged with making a terroristic threat, a Class B misdemeanor, she said. Collins said Trevino had been notified of the eviction date.

The deputy had arrived with a locksmith and a moving company.

Trevino, who has a "very lengthy criminal history," was inside, refusing to leave when he allegedly ordered his dog to attack, Collins said.

"was charged with making a terroristic threat"?

That sounds like a misuse of the law.

Sounds really serious but they said it was only a misdemeanor. I wonder what they call a speeding ticket - "Reckless endangerment from a hyper velocity mass?"

LOL

It's all part of the program to dumb down crime or as we usta call it, "cook da books".

In Baltimore a man had his house sprayed with bullets in a gang war attack.

How do ya think that one was classified??

Answer: Vandalism.

Yup..the mayor ran for governor on his excellent crime record.

Said he was going to do to the rest of the state what he did to Baltimore.

He WON!

you better believe it............this is a prelude to what the Patriot Act is all about. "I'm going to kick your Butt"... can be considered a terrorist threat if it is decided to name it that. This is what law enforcement is being fed due to the changing "trends". So, once we sign if we do, the UN Child protective program...

http://www.ohchr.org/english/law/pdf/crc.pdf

can take your children away...if we SIGN. They are closing the gap slowly but surely.

It is in fact misuse of the law...you haven't seen anything yet.

Terroristic threat? Menefield needs his head examined more than his foot.

That sounds almost like something from an episode of "Reno 911!".

"He was released in good condition and was recovering Thursday night at home"

I am no gun expert. Don't police currently use .40 caliber handguns? Won't a .38 or .40 caliber gun do some major damage to a foot?

Yet another "senseless shooting" statistic for the Handgun
grabbers, Inc. propaganda machine.

He misunderstood. He was supposed to shoot the dog, not "his" dogs. Back to ninja training!

I just knew someone was going to post that picture.

Yes and M.O.M. WILL probably do to the rest of the state what he did to Baltimore.

It would seem that attempted murder or even assault on police officer would have been a better charge.

If you order a trained attack dog to attack, that is the same as firing a gun IMO.

Not a thing wrong with Glocks, I carried one professionally for years. One has to be TRAINED in handling that "system" though or you're sure 'nough gonna hurt yourself--or someone else--when you don't want to. Lots of goombahs keep their trigger finger in the trigger guard, you'd be amazed--but probably not. Glock did a fascinating study on "accidental" discharges with Glocks, if it wasn't for some of the terrible consequences, it would make great comedy. BTW, it ain't the pistol's fault.

I'll bet there was a better way to have handled this situation...
