British Data Shows Repeat Abortions Increasing at Alarming Rate

London, England (LifeNews.com) -- New statistics from the British Department of Health show that more than 100 teenage girls every month have a second abortion and some of those girls are having a multiple abortion. The statistics show some teenagers are using abortion as a method of birth control and may prompt calls for tighter regulations.

According to the figures, 1,316 girls under the age of 18 had a second abortion during 2005 with 90 girls having a third abortion.

Another 44 women had undergone eight or more abortions including 20 who were under the age of 30.

A report in The Independent newspaper shows that 14 women under the age of 25 had their sixth abortion in 2005 and at least one of those women were under the age of 18.

Among the over 30s, 482 women had their fifth abortion in 2005, 92 were on their sixth and 29 were admitted for their seventh abortion.

The new data shows that repeat abortions for all age categories are up from the previous year.

Despite the grisly figures, the Department of Health claims it's making progress in reducing teenage pregnancies with a combination of abstinence and sexual education involving the promotion of birth control.

On its web site, the British health department claims "Between 1998 and 2004, the under-18 conception rate has fallen by 11.1 per cent and the under-16 rate by 15.2 per cent. Both rates are now at their lowest levels for 20 years."

In total, there were 186,416 abortions in the UK in 2005 including more than 60,000 on women who had had a previous abortion. Among the 18 to 24-year-old group, 16,474 had a second abortion while 3,060 were on their third.

I hope that one day society will realize that abstinence is the only answer.

I do too.

I also hope that the British realize that their country will be muslim in a very few years.......I'm not holding my breath on that one.

Sorry, I should have said that Mohammed was the fifth most popular name in the United Kingdom, not in England. It does make a difference, but the fact still stands that the demographics favor the Islamists over western culture in all of Europe.

This information was contained in Mark Steyn's book, America Alone, which explains that the Demographics of the ballooning Islamic population, combined with the declining European population dooms Europe as a lost culture and is the reason that much of Europe is afraid to join the US in the war on terror.

'Sorry, I should have said that Mohammed was the fifth most popular name in the United Kingdom, not in England.'

The figures I quoted are for England and Wales - if you include the whole of the UK the numbers drop to 33rd and 54th - even further away from the 5th that you erroneously quote. I notice Jose, Juan and Jesus are in the top ten of several US states.

'but the fact still stands that the demographics favor the Islamists over western culture in all of Europe.'

What facts are those? Simply not true For the UK. America has at least the same proportion of Muslims as the UK has now, most likely far more and the rate of increase in the US is way ahead of the UK. You need to close your borders and choose who you let in, not let any muslim who wants to live in the US get a flight to Mexico or Canada take and a short walk to the US. This is not meant to sound anti-american, but if anything you need to wake up quicker than we do, especially with the dems in power! :(

He's probably quite right about continental europe, but if he believes that about the UK he is sorely mistaken and has not checked his figures. It's not easy to say what will happen to the US as you refuse to secure your borders and have no idea how many muslims are already there or enter illegally everyday, but I pray you will take control of it before it's too late or his book may have to be renamed England Alone. . . . :(

I think that Steyn is probably right about his figures on the UK, as well. The popularity of the name Mohammed is indicative of the birth rate of the Islamists as compared to the native Europeans, as well as England.

It is probably true that although England's native birth rate is extremely low, their Muslim population has not ballooned at the rate that it has in Europe, but it is gaining rapidly.

The US birth rate is still at 2.1, so we are still maintaining our population and are better able to absorb the Islamic onslaught, but as you said, not for long if we fail to secure our borders.

The problem is the huge growth of the welfare system and social securtiy in an aging population. The leftists refuse to reform the social welfare system and think that if we let in enough immigrants and legalize them, we can continue the welfare through the next generation, at least. Too bad that Europe has already proved that it doesn't work that way, if you don't assimilate your immigrants.

Abortion is not birth control.

I knew a woman who had SEVEN abortions! She is no longer with us. She died of a drug and alcohol overdose.

I am totally against abortion. However, I am a realist. People are going to have sex; no ifs ands or buts about it. People are going to have sex, married or not, if the urge strikes them. However, there is a responsible way to have sex, and an irresponsible way to have sex.

My brother told me that he refused to allow his daughter to go on birth control pills because it would be tantamount to endorsing sexual activity. Of course, she became pregnant. Fortunately, her boyfriend (now husband) was a good guy with ambition and education. They became a stable family of four.

Birth control pills and condoms make the most sense. Stable monogamous relationships make the most sense. Perhaps if abortion were made illegal again, young girls would think before opening their legs; at least long enough to go to the pharmacy or insist on the use of a condom.

Wow! No ifs, ands or buts! If the urge strikes them!

Not even my little dog Pete is that totally brainless. Ever look around at your friends and --- wonder--- if they are perhaps falling a little short of their role in the Cosmos as embodied rational beings?

Lazy persons birth control.

Maybe they should seriously think about sterilizing the repeaters.

The babies killed by abortion aren't "liberals", just tiny innocent humans who hoped to go on living.

So you are saying that the majority of people are going to resist their sexual urges as a matter of course?

Who said "as a matter of course"? We don't do any of the things that are distinctively human --- talking, counting, figuring out kinship, cooking our food, making toys or making governments -- "as a matter of course."

It would seem that this is what you meant with that statement. I think if you will read my entire post you'll find that I am not for rampant promiscuous sexual activity. I merely realize that it isn't realistic to assume that we can get everyone to abstain.

I don't know anyone who assumes we can get everyone to abstain.

I don't even believe in mere abstinence per se. I mean, for instance, that there are wrong ways and reasons to abstain, too. If people were abstaining merely because of an intense hatred or fear of sex, that would be dreadfully wrong,. If people were abstaining because they'd taken some hypothetical drug that robbed them of all possibility of sexual feeling, that would be ghastly wrong as well.

What we need is the intelligent, loving, and harmonious use and practice of sexuality. It's a fine, fine gift: sex lived right.
