Given recent events in Durham, N.C., concerning the alleged Duke University lacrosse "rape'' case, it is now possible to declare parody dead.
How does one parody a parody?
All is not lost, however. We can celebrate the addition of a new verb to our American lexicon -- "to Nifong.'' When the moment calls for activities that need no elaboration, we already "Bobbitt,'' "Bork,'' and "Lewinsky.''
Now we can "Nifong'' someone when we want to trump up criminal charges based on flimsy evidence allegedly for political purposes. In short, when we want to screw up someone's life.
Nifong would be as in Durham County District Attorney Michael B. Nifong, who earlier this year brought charges against three lacrosse players -- Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty and David Evans -- for the alleged rape of an African-American stripper who had been hired to perform at a team party.
Last week, Nifong dropped the rape charges when the alleged victim decided she wasn't sure she had been raped after all. That is, she wasn't sure she had been vaginally penetrated, a distinction required by state law for a charge of rape.
Last March, after the party, the stripper had a different recollection, telling police that she had been raped every which way. But, well, these things are difficult sometimes to keep straight. Rape being so nuanced and all.
Meanwhile, hundreds of lives have been turned inside out, none so much as the three accused players. All because, well, let's see, because the stripper said so. The absence of corroborating evidence seemed to pose no obstacle for Nifong, who ran a successful re-election campaign on the strength of his convictions.
And, of course, the story had good legs and plenty of sex appeal, if you like that sort of thing: race...

Why doesn't Kathleen refer to the three lacrosse players as "European-Americans"?
I used to use that term to protest being called "white" by the race counters.
Just like they "Plamed" Scooter Libby and tried to "Plame" Karl Rove and Vice President Cheney. DemocRATS are a sick bunch.
I had a good friend (caucasian) who was from South Africa, a permanent US citizen. When filling out questionnaires or employment forms, he would inevitably fill in "African-American". He had reams of stories about the s**t he caught for doing that.
How about Scooternifonging?
Have charges been filed against her yet?
In the Army once I actually checked "Other" and filled in GWR. No one noticed or asked what GWR was. (Great White Race.)
Don't start celebrating yet. North Carolina law defines Rape as Vaginal Penetration. The charges of Sexual Assault have not been dropped because she has not stated that she doesn't remember Anal Penetration. This charge carries a sentence of up to 290 months.
I think this is a sad situation for 3 young men, all thanks to a dancer and a DA...
I would hate to say what I would do if one of these young men were one of my sons....I do know that both the dancer and the DA would know exactly what I thought of them, and then after telling them in person, I would take out a full page ad in every newspaper in America so that everyone would know what an injustice had been done.
True, they were at the wrong place at the wrong time, but this dancer seen a lifetime of blackmail in her future....I don't think she imagined in a million years that her 'plans' would have gone this far....probably thought that once this was reported the families of these 3 young men would want to pay her off, and keep paying her off for ever....didn't work, so now she doesn't know what to do....
And as far as the DA....he wanted to be re-elected and knew this was his meal ticket to do so...I would call for his removal if I were a resident there...and I would not only go on every talk show, tv program in the area, but again I would take out a full page ad.
In taking out a full page ad, you have more of a chance to get the message to the people and the newspapers don't dare NOT to enter it...not only is it very costly, but the damage you can do if they don't run it....its the only way to bring these people to their knees....
I wish these 3 young men and their families some peace, and hope that their lives can be rebuilt by two people who lie, cheat, steal, and take from people what they have no business taking from anyone....the future....

I don't know, but if there isn't a law against malicious prosecution, there should be. IMHO, Nifong should be prosecuted for abusing his office.
Well she should get 290 months regardless for remembering and then not remembering IMO.

When the DA is the one who commits a crime, who is going to prosecute the case?..........
She still can't seem to remember where the semen from five different guys came from. None of it from the Duke boys though.
