I always thought that President Ford was one of our very best. The fact that he has Carter as a bookend does much to enhance his legacy. Some will say that having Nixon and Carter as bookends is more than sufficient. I think Nixon was a great but conflicted President and man and should not be compared to something like a Carter.

President Ford was President Nixon's choice for our government and future. He chose wisely. We were well served by this kind and decent man. President Ford empowered many who would continue to serve our Country and Government.

President Ford chose well and his thoughtful leadership and counsel will be missed.

Waiting for the Howard Dean style Democrat nastiness to start. Some will be gracious, but others like Howie, just can't help themselves. It will be their un-Wellstone moment.

There or Del Mar. The former President is a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal in Palm Desert which is in the S.D. Diocese.

As many has said, prayers and condolences.

It's too bad MI hasn't been sending more folks like him to Washington.

Thanks for posting that BBC report. Far better than the AP's juvenile hen scratches.

Had a vague memory of an incident and did some research...President Ford once hit someone in the head with a golf ball while golfing.

God keep his family in peace during this time.

Loved that picture with Dubya and Ford this year. It was especially dear because in the video, GWB was holding Pres Ford's hand as they walked.

People could see that he does that out of kindness and respect for his elders, so when he was previously snapped holding an elderly Saudi sheik's hand and criticized for it by the press, that's all it was - guiding and steadying an older person.

pic of the family..

I got President Ford's autograph at the Bob Hope Desert Classic in Palm Springs back in about 1986. I was hesitant to ask him for it, and I hovered around his golf cart with my pen acting nervously. A Secret Service man noticed me and said 'Look, if you want the autograph, go get it now.'.

Gerald Ford then happily autographed a golf visor of mine right next to where Bob Hope signed it.

I have never seen such sloppy texting on Fox News alert for a breaking news story.

The white background reads "GEROLD FORD" not "GERALD". There are multiple typos scattered in the ticker - sometimes corrected.

And they JUST fixed "ROBERT NOVACK" to read "BOB NOVAK."
