Castro's Special Care

Latin America: Nothing exposes the myth of Cuba's vaunted health care system quite like the news that ailing dictator Fidel Castro refuses to use it. Instead, he prefers care from Spain. What hypocrisy.

Over the weekend, Cuba flew in Dr. Jose Luis Garcia Sabrido, chief of the gastrointestinal care unit at Madrid's Gregorio Maranon Hospital, to look over the aging dictator and see if there was anything he could do.

Spanish medics also brought in new capitalist-world medical equipment, part of a series of such shipments the Cuban government has been quietly provisioning for Castro since June, well before he ceded power to his brother, Raul.

Garcia Sabrido, who has a good reputation as a doctor, spoke at a Cuban health care convention last month and apparently was trusted enough by the communist establishment to keep Castro's health a state secret, as it demanded.

But what a sorry spectacle, given the claims of Castro and his apologists that communist health care is a humane and superior alternative to that in the capitalist world of double-entry bookkeeping, where health care is not free but something of value.

The president of Madrid's regional government, Esperanza Aguirre, swiftly spotted the hypocrisy of Castro's special treatment. Castro supporters, she said, "practically justified dictatorship, and the lack of the most elemental human rights," by "claiming to have an extraordinary health service."

For years, Castro has made political hay over his health care as a means of amassing international kudos. In fact, he's been aggressive about it in the last couple of years, taking advantage of advancing elections in several countries.

He gutted Cuba's mangy health care system by shipping Cuban doctors throughout the hemisphere to provide "free" care to other nations' poor to help win presidencies for his favored candidates.

Castro demands good Spanish doctors for himself but doesn't even allow Cubans to have basic health care.

Socialism, communism, the most lying, murderous, genocidal, hypocritical, worthless, bankrupt philosophy in the world, enforced only, as Mao said, by the barrel of a gun.

And Hillary, Schumer, Pelosi, Boxer, the Kennedy's, et al want it here.

It doesn't work, it never works, it will never work.

"Nothing exposes the myth of Cuba's vaunted health care system quite like the news that ailing dictator Fidel Castro refuses to use it."

Says it all right there and if we think that those in Congress will subjest themselves to the same plan they force us to accept when they implement universal health care, we'd better think again.

That DR sounded like Baghdad Bob...
"he will be running the marathon next week, no need to worry, el presidente will swim to the gringo's island and swim back before their assassin submarines can catch him.. He will smoke a cigar and laugh while they sail in circles trying to catch him.. he'll live to 140 years old.."

I noted this the other day when the first stories about the Spanish surgeon began to emerge.

Fidel Castro is just another limousine liberal. Hopefully we can change that to past tense in the near future.

I had a debate on here many moons ago about the quality of Cuban doctors. I ventured (from experience with “wet foot, dry foot” escapee Cuban doctors) that they were, at best able to qualify in the US as Paramedics. Most could not even pass the basic testing requirements for EMTs.

If Cuban doctors were as great as Castro has proclaimed for the last 30 or so years, the Cuban government would not have needed to requested foreign medical help.

From what I understand, he has been surround with doctors trained in other countries for many years … not trusting Cuban trained doctors.

Even Castro, in his effort to prolong life, knows better than to rely on doctors that his régime has produced.

It doesn't work, it never works, it will never work.

The "elites" will have the best health care in the world. The rest of us will not. We'll have just as much as they will allow us.

Castro doesn't have cancer. He's just on the "Cuban People's Diet."

Imagine - Castro dies, the people establish a vibrant democracy, Rather-Carter-Kennedy-Delahunt-etc. are permanantly banned from Cuba, Walmart establishes itself, American industry begins to outsource to Cuba.....
