James Brown dead
He was a lot of fun.. I remember party weekend at University of the South in 1964. James played at one frat house. Many other famous groups were playing at other houses. Probably one of the largest college party weekends in the US.
In recent times, it is my favorite to hear Rush play "I Feel Good" on the day after a big Republican win.
R.I.P. James
He was just on the news doing his annual gift giveaway yesterday here in town.
I liked him and his music. He was also a republican.
Notwithstanding the whole stage routine, he never developed the 'star personality'. I ran into him about ten years ago in Burbank. He was in town for the Tonight show, and had gone out to dinner, and there he sat, in a Popeye's Chicken franchise, munching away and goofing with passing fans. Quite a character.
Oh this is sad news. Rest in peace James Brown.
I played one of my James Brown CD earlier this week. Farewell J.B.
Nice thoughts, R.O.E.
Get on up on your good foot!
RIP, James.
RIP Mr. Brown. Thanks for the years of great music.
Very sad. R.I.P........ Just told hubby, and he said he was very good in ''Down and out in Beverly Hills'', I say he has got the wrong person. Anybody here know?

'Godfather of Soul' James Brown dies
December 25, 2006
GREG BLUESTEIN
Associated Press
ATLANTA - James Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured "Godfather of Soul," whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a founder of rap, funk and disco as well, died early Monday, his agent said. He was 73.
Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music. Longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side, he said.
Copsidas said Brown's family was being notified of his death and that the cause was still uncertain. "We really don't know at this point what he died of," he said.
Along with Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan and a handful of others, Brown was one of the major musical influences of the past 50 years. At least one generation idolized him, and sometimes openly copied him. His rapid-footed dancing inspired Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson among others. Songs such as David Bowie's "Fame," Prince's "Kiss," George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" and Sly and the Family Stone's "Sing a Simple Song" were clearly based on Brown's rhythms and vocal style.
If Brown's claim to the invention of soul can be challenged by fans of Ray Charles and Sam Cooke, then his rights to the genres of rap, disco and funk are beyond question. He was to rhythm and dance music what Dylan was to lyrics: the unchallenged popular innovator.
"James presented obviously the best grooves," rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy once told The Associated Press. "To this day, there has been no one near as funky. No one's coming even close."
His hit singles include such classics as "Out of Sight," "(Get Up I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine," "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and "Say It Out Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud"...

Now THAT was a life.
That was Little Richard in "Down and Out..."
I saw James Brown perform about a year ago. Unbelievable at his age what he could do on stage, I was tired sitting in my seat, amazing, amazing entertainer.
"Living in America" (1985)
(Dan Hartman and Charlie Midnight)
As performed by James Brown
Yeah, uh! Get up, now! Ow! Knock out this!
Super highways, coast to coast, easy to get anywhere
On the transcontinental overload, just slide behind the wheel
How does it feel
When there's no destination - that's too far
And somewhere on the way, you might find out who you are
Living in America - eye to eye, station to station
Living in America - hand to hand, across the nation
Living in America - got to have a celebration
Rock my soul
Smokestack, fatback, many miles of railroad track
All night radio, keep on runnin' through your rock 'n' roll soul
All night diners keep you awake, hey, on black coffee and a hard roll
You might have to walk the fine line, you might take the hard line
But everybody's working overtime
I live in America, help me out, but I live in America, wait a minute
You might not be looking for the promised land, but you might find it anyway
Under one of those old familiar names
Like New Orleans (New Orleans),
Detroit City (Detroit City),
Dallas (Dallas)
Pittsburg P.A. (Pittsburg P.A.),
New York City (New York City)
Kansas City (Kansas City),
Atlanta (Atlanta),
Chicago and L.A.
Living in America - hit me - living in America - yeah, I walk in and out
Living in America
I
live in America - state lines, gonna make the prime, that
I live in America - hey, I know what it means, I
Living in America - Eddie Murphy, eat your heart out
Living in America - hit me, I said now, eye to eye, station to station
Living in America - so nice, with your bare self
Living in America - I feel good!
"Do you see the light!?"
That does it. Now my feelings are hurt.
R.I.P. Godfather...
One of the first 45s I ever bought back in the '60s was 'Papa's Got a Brand New Bag'.
I STILL love that song and turn up the radio when it comes on.
James Brown played the singing Reverend in the movie The Blues Brothers.
James Brown featured as the Reverend led and co-directed the Southern California Community Choir, assisted by the choir's real Assistant Director, Alonzo Atkins. Alonzo Atkins was Assistant Director of the real life choir and dearly departed gospel legend Reverend James Cleveland was the director of the choir, although Reverend Cleveland was not featured in the movie.
Chakha Kahn played a small role as one of the choir's soloists. The rest of the choir were all real long-time members.
The Southern California Community Choir was the choir featured on Aretha Franklin's all gospel Amazing Grace album. Reverend James Cleveland performed a solo and duet with Aretha Franklin on the album. Reverend Cleveland coached Aretha Franklin when she was a young child growing up in her Daddy's Detroit Church.
