The Channel tunnel has been targeted by a group of Islamic militant terrorists aiming to cause maximum carnage during the holiday season, according to French and American secret services. The plan, which the French DGSE foreign intelligence service became aware of earlier this year, is revealed in a secret report to the French government on threat levels. The report, dated December 19, indicates that the tip-off came from the American CIA. British and French intelligence agencies have run a series of checks of the security system protecting the 31-mile tunnel but the threat level, the DGSE warns, remains high. British security services remain on high alert throughout the holiday period.
According to the French sources, the plan was put together in Pakistan and is being directed from there. The plotters are believed to be Western Europeans, possibly Britons of Pakistani descent.

The DGSE report also mentions an al-Qaeda project for a 'wave of attacks in an unidentified European country planned and run from Syria and Iraq'. The period of highest risk is said to be from September 2006 to April 2007.

Last week news reports in America detailed a squad of a dozen English-speaking militants, nine of whom are said to be British who, having sought out the al-Qaeda bases, have now been trained to a high level in terrorist tactics. The group is known as the English Brothers because of their shared language. Apart from the nine Britons, the squad is made up of an Australian and two Norwegians. It was reported that Bin Laden and other militant leaders hope they will lead a new wave of terror attacks on the continent.

A succesful attack on the Chunnel could lead to an absolutely terrible carnage. However, the security checks have always been similar to the ones at the airports. Hopefully it has been beefed up further on both sides of the Channel.
I saw a program on Discovery Channel yesterday entitled "the real heroes of Telemarken". It was about a group of soldiers taking part in a winter survival exercise in Norway, and then meeting up with the old men who took part in Operation Grouse - the group of Norwegians who prepared the ground for the attack on the heavy water production facility. It was a fantastic program and the old men, in their late eighties and ninties when this was filmed were just superb. Still sharp as nails, both mentally and physically.
To see those old men and their young compatriots (no slouches they either), and then read this story and see two "Norwegians" mentioned makes my blood boil. We all know they are as much Norwegian as a Nile crocodile.

I agree. To hear muslims being referred to as American, British, French, etc. They have no tie to the countries they are in. Culturally they are real backward. Don't believe in capitalism at all. Ignorant would be a compliment to most of them.

According to them, the "brothers" were reportedly escorted to the al-Qaeda and introduced to their tutors by one Adam Gadahn, a Californian indicted by the US authorities as an al-Qaeda terrorist.

That was as much as the tight-lipped former detainee would divulge, except to mention that Adam Yahiye Gadahn, the notorious fugitive "American Al Qaeda," was with the brothers, presumably as an interpreter.

What surprises me is that they haven't already tried to destroy the Chunnel by now.
No not really. This white boy is married to a Latina, ever since I gave up white women life has been good! :) However, I am a fervent believer in profiling. Our law enforcement efforts should target by percentages the same percent of crimes etc. as the bad guys commit. If Muslims commit 90% of the terrorist acts we should devote 90% of our anti terrorist efforts at them.

I was on the Channel in the spring. The checks are identical to the airlines with the exception of fewer people to check allowing more time to be inquisitive. They went through every article in my bags.
I believe if terrorists are able to pull off an attack it will have to be an inside job.
