State's population growth on stagnant course (Massachusetts to lose electoral vote)
The Boston Globe ^ | 12/22/06 | Raja Mishra

Population growth in Massachusetts was essentially flat last year, according to new US Census data that shows a continuing pattern of stagnation that many fear threatens the state's economic and social prospects.

The census data released yesterday covers July 2005 to July 2006, and displayed a pattern evident since at least 2000: Nearly 50,000 people left Massachusetts over the past year, while about 30,000 foreign-born immigrants arrived.

The state inched to its slender gain because 22,503 more people were born than died.

"It's yet more confirmation that our worries about stagnation are warranted," said Paul Grogan , president of the nonprofit Boston Foundation. "If this continues, the state could slip into a long-term decline that could be hard to reverse."

And one congressional seat (bye, bye Barney Frank?).

My wife and I left MA last year for Georgia. No regrets.

We aint having enough babies.

Well, actually, in NYC, we are. Expect most of them are paid for by Medicaid and 2/5ths are born to unwed mothers . . .

There's isn't. Massachusetts, like Ramadi and Beirut, are liberal bastions of Anti-Americanism.

The libtards must be working overtime to prove it's all a GOP plot.

And don't discount the tens of thousands of abortions each year in NYC.

They clearly need to raise taxes to solve the problem.

The state taxes in Mass would drive any average American out of that state.

LOL! My sympathies if you reside in that State! Me...I hail from the Peoples Republic of New Jersey and our population is declining too. We have six years, then we are outta here too!

I hope they keep losing more. Massachusetts isn't the cradle of America and with Deval Patrick set to take over, even more people will leave than stay around to watch their prospects worsen under one party Democratic rule.

Good news. It is always better for the USA when any consistently blue state loses electoral votes and congressional seats.

I live in Arizona and in my humble opinion, stagnant population growth is a good thing. My home state is being invaded by all kinds of freaks, kooks, loonies and weirdos. The state is rapidly going to hell.

The Democrats' secret plan is to increase the illegal immigrant population to maintain and grow their electoral count - the electoral count is based on the census which does not distinguish between legal or illegal status.

My wife and I moved from Natick, MA to Chandler, AZ almost 12 years ago. Best thing we ever did.

Ok, that's Louisiana, New York, and now Massachusetts that are losing electoral votes. What the heck's up...

Texas increased population by more than a half million in the past year (largely Katrina evacuees), so they'll add another couple congressmen after 2010.

My mom and dad, who make the conservative percentage rise by 8 points just by living there, are leaving upon retirement. The Kerry/Keneddys of the world have, with their mega gay/liberal base, ruined Massachusetts. The only good thing about the place is the Red Sox and the Patriots. Like NY it would be a great and wonderful place were it not for its "ruling" class scum.

You are, relatively speaking, in much better condition than USSRW. For example, in Seattle, the bastion of loonies (how else could Jim McDermott get elected with about 80% of the vote?) there are more dogs than children. That place is totally wacko. And we have Queen Christine as gov, Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell as Sens. A bunch of Dems for reps. In fact, Dems run just about everything here. This state is not going to hell - it is there already.

Louisiana is losing due to Katrina and Democrats fleeing to commit murders in other states.

NY and Massachuseets are losing because they're liberal hell-holes where abortion is plentiful and motherhood and families are frowned upon.
