Oh yes, all those quaint people who think that where you live or what legal activities you engage in and at what times are "individual lifestyle decisions" that you have a "right" to make in this country should just keep their mouths shut and let the truly educated individuals like Mr. Hylton decide what is best for us. Sickening, but oh so predictable.

Just wait till they start on fat people. We can aready see the fat police have startd on fast food joints.

I can see airlines charging double for fat people, or charging by the pound would be a way of getting around the discrimination rants we will no doubt hear from the Rosie O Donnels.

"This not only represents an enormous victory toward eradicating America’s most deadly habit, it demonstrates that concerted public and private efforts can change negative social behavior, no matter how deeply ingrained. "

Let us know when you recognize what TRULY IS Americas most deadly habit!!

Whoever this guy is, he is a commie of the worst sort. Imagine government telling us where we can build a home, because it is away from the congestion!! Frightening!

The irony is that many people who live in the suburbs would be perfectly happy to live in the city - if cities weren't the hellholes they are. And why are cities hellholes? Largely because of the policies espoused by this author and his ilk.

As one who formerly lived in an area overcome by "sprawl", I think the author is correct when he identifies it as a great problem for America.
We need to preserve the remaining farmland and forests or we will eventually be in the same position with their products that we are now in with imported oil.

And the control freaks just keep marching on.

Yes, you will find that just like there are anti-smoking gnatzies right here on Free Republic, there are also some anti-"sprawl" advocates.

The cities drove people away, instead of finding ways to attract and retain people they are looking to the government to force people back into the big city killing fields.

More proof that freedom is as unpopular in our age as in any time in the past. Eternal vigilance is the price of Liberty. Tyrants, petty and great are always eager to take things away from you for the common good, as they define it.

Hawaiian Lawmakers Irate over Smoking Violation

Hawaii state officials are irate that despite recent passage of the nation’s most severe anti-smoking law, Kilauea volcano continues to erupt. The “Smoke-Free Hawaii Law” went into effect Nov. 16, banning smoking in all public places.

“The smoke from Kilauea is polluting our air,” said Senator Emma Kukubrane (D-Hilo). “Just because it’s so-called natural doesn’t exempt it from our statutes. The law will be enforced.”

The law calls for fines of up to $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second offense, and up to $500 for each additional violation.

Kukubrane says that landowners whose property has smoking lava on it will be liable for the fines. “Each day is a separate offense as far as we’re concerned,” Kukubrane said. “We’ve got zero tolerance for polluters in this state. We’ll fine them into bankruptcy if we have to to ensure our children breathe clean air.”

Everything used to be legal. Then they started making stuff illegal, for our own good of course. Now they're adding to the list. So it goes.

My note to the author:

Mr. Hylton,

I just read your recent column equating the fight against smoking with the fight against urban sprawl.

I do agree with you there are similarities. Both issues pit people minding their own business and freely associating against those with authoritain impulses and an insatiable desire impose their vision of utopia on others. You, and those like you, are truly frightening and a far bigger threat to all that is good than any number of cases of lung cancer or one acre lots could ever be. The world you are pushing us toward is a cold soul-less place. Shame on you and your tyrannical crusade.

I want everyone to know also, that Fox News did a documentary about a year ago, about how the middle east woman are coming to Detroit when they are close to their due date of delivering a baby.  They stay in that big Mosque you all have there.

Once the baby is born, they head back to their own country, leaving the Michigan folks to bare the costs of all these babies!  Someone ask the Detroit Mayor want can be done about this.  He threw his hands in the air and "I have no idea!"
