Marine Charged With 13 Civilian Murder Counts (Haditha)
MSNBC ^ | 12/21/06

Posted on 12/21/2006 11:03:18 AM PST by areafiftyone

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - A Marine Corps squad leader was charged Thursday with 13 murder counts stemming from the killings of 24 civilians in the Iraqi town of Haditha last year, his attorney said.

Staff Sgt. Frank D. Wuterich was charged with 12 counts of murdering individuals and one count of murdering six people by ordering Marines under his charge to "shoot first and ask questions later" when they entered a house, according to charging sheets released by defense attorney Neal Puckett.

As many as eight Marines could be charged in the case, the biggest U.S. criminal case to emerge from the war in Iraq in terms of people killed.

The deaths occurred on Nov. 19, 2005.

Lawyers for two Marines already have said they expect their clients will be charged and it’s believed up to six others could join them.

Who has exactly how much experience in DIRECT combat with a barbaric, non-uniformed enemy that hides among women and children?

Probably more than you. Why do you ask?

"They'll get their day in court, and if they're innocent then they'll go free. If they're guilty then it'll be life at Leavenworth."

You have the right screen name. They have had their day in court. Wake up. They shouldn't even be publicly tried. Maybe you haven't noticed but WE ARE AT WAR!

"I have faith in our military justice system. They will have a fair trial."

You have? Where did you get it?

War or no, they are entitled to a trial. Or would you have then taken out and thrown in jail without one?

The AP crap that our Marines should be tried in Iraq has now been picked by USA Today. Only USA Today added their own spin to the headline. It reads: Iraqis: Marines in Haditha case should be tried in Iraq, as if the entire nation has demanded it.

They just LOVE the closing quote:

Karim al-Hayani, a 46-year-old Haditha resident, said he had a question for President Bush.

"I ask Bush: 'Is this the democracy that you promised to bring to the Iraqis?'" he said.

Wonder if Karim al-Hayani is a "budding journalist student" or a "human rights activist" (if he exists at all)?

I am a Bush fan...but that Burgler thing has me very angry.

I really want the story on that.

And this is making my blood boil...that is why I want to hear/read all of the evidence.

So far..I haven't seen a presser on Fox.

But, I heard on ABC radio news a few minutes ago that 4 of the Marines (no names mentioned) will face murder charges, and 4 Marines will face "other" charges...

That was all of the information they gave...

I'm missing something. Are you saying that the UCMJ is suspended in wartime?

Yeah, Red. The old enemedia feeding frenzy has begun. Each one will try to outdo the other, sickening.

Not surprising that USA Today has already come up with the "try them in Iraq" crap. They're the leader in blame America first.

He's being used as a scapegoat and probably all in an attempt to appease the Sunni Terrorist.

Either them or the new chair of the house appropriations committee in charge of the military's budget, who already pronounced them guilty and doesn't want to look like the fool he is.

He was a platoon leader at the tail end of Vietnam, and he was the CO of 1/7 Marines in Desert Storm (the Marines had a much rougher war than the US Army's "left hook").

He's also the guy who said:

"You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil. You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them. Actually, it's a lot of fun to fight. You know, it's a hell of a hoot. It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right upfront with you, I like brawling."

A lot of folks thought this guy was a wit back then. Ah, nothing more fickle than an angry mob...

Now understand, I don't know the specifics of the case.

Perhaps you should refrain from commenting then.

Read up on the case here.

From serving in the Navy and having previously worked in a civilian court. I'm not impressed by NJP, but I respect the modern methods of courts-martial. Military justice in the past was a farce, but today I highly respect it.
