LOS ANGELES - A one-month-old baby has been checked and cleared by a Los Angeles hospital after being put through an airport X-ray machine.
Authorities at Los Angeles International Airport say an inexperienced traveler mistakenly put her grandson through a carry-on luggage screener.
A startled security worker noticed the shape of a child and immediately pulled the baby out.
A spokesman for LAX says the incident Saturday was an innocent mistake.
In 1988, an infant in a car seat went through an X-ray machine at the airport.

ROFL
They way babies are wrapped going through airports, it IS possible they just thought it was a bundle of blanket in the carrier. One month babes are wee things. The grandmother was daft to say the least. I'd cut the checker some slack.
WOW, talk about inconsistency.
I must always shed the shoes and typically there is one running the cattle chute, one watching you partially disrobe, one watching the x-ray monitor, one working the metal detector, and one (or usually more) on the exit side of the scanner to conduct 'spot wandings'
This has been the case for me at PHL, Logan, San Diego, Honolulu, SeaTac, and Brunswick ME
Was this the Gram's first trip on an airplane??? Where were the parents? Geeeesh. What lousy reporting....
They often make the folks at DU seem reasonably intelligent by comparison.
Duly noted, but to put it ALL on someone who may not have known any better is unsat.
Then to refer to her as and idiot??? Ignorant, yes...idiotic, no. Accidents happen.
But someone who's job it is to watch this evolution and recognize the contents, dropped the ball. I find the screener much more culpable.
Well, if you fly out of Las Vegas or New York City they make you shed most everything, especially your shoes.
UGH ... and my grammar and usage is no better :-)
Zee language of loove?
Clearly the baby had less than 1 ounce of fluid in its diaper as it was allowed on-board and not placed in checked luggage.
She's not necessarily old.
"We don' knaw we hef to hev insurance.
We don' knaw we hef to hef driver license.
We don't knaw we hef to or should hef car seats.
We don' knaw we cannot or should not put our ninos through the xray machine."
"I've never had to put my shoes in the bin."
You don't really fly, do you?
Not since the London "shampoo" scare, I realized.
"Get your ass to Mars!!"
Why would you? There are only 10,000 signs telling you what not to put through. Although I concede I've never seen a sign that say, "Do NOT put Baby in Here!"
I wonder how the rads measure up to a normal x-ray? Not that junior needs one.
I think Grammy just lost visiting privileges.
