It was a day for bill signing as the president signed S. 843, the Combating Autism Act of 2006; S. 3678, the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act; and H.R. 6143, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act of 2006.

VP Cheney is to be a defense witness (for Lewis Libby) in the Valerie Plane case.

There were so few presidential pictures that I had to find something to fluff up the Dose. ;-) Fortunately for us, Barney and Miss Beazley were cooperating.

Grrrr...

I wish they would put the reporters name instead of just the questions, so I could direct my anger at the proper person.

To: GretchenM; All

Thank you for posting the DOSE tonight!

Even though it's a slooooooooooow news day, I did find an article that might interest our Texas and non-Texas Dosers alike!

DALLAS, LIKE HOUSTON, WANTS AN EX-PRESIDENT TO CALL ITS OWN!
By Darrell Preston

Dec. 19 (Bloomberg) -- The big question in Dallas, as President George W. Bush enters his last two years in office, is this: Will he come back?

Bush, who lived in Dallas about six years when he was general manager of the Texas Rangers baseball team, left for the state capital of Austin after winning the governorship in 1994. After becoming president, he maintained his membership in a Dallas church and family ties to a local university.

That Bush will return to Dallas is ``a good bet,'' said Dan Branch, a Republican state representative who is a friend of the president. ``He lived in Dallas before getting into politics, and the First Lady still comes here a lot.''

Tony really should have told them that Senator McCain is the spokesperson for skin cancer. He's had serious melanoma and had several operations and speaks out on it all the time. Surely the media wouldn't want the first lady to upstage Senator McCain.

I hope he'll be happy to live mainly on his ranch in Crawford.

One of the questioners was someone named Victoria.

I liked the fact that Tony managed to mention HIS own care for himself that led to his colon cancer detection and treatment.

And that he said these reporters should be looking to the value of common sense (instead of implying that President and Mrs. Bush are parents to us all to show us how to manage our health care). argh

Q May I follow on that? The President is also a private citizen, as well as being the President. So --
MR. SNOW: Well, he's an elected official. It's different.

Lord ha' mercy, how dumb can these reporters be?? I'm surprised Tony hasn't slapped one of them.

"Kitty" used to be "India" until the Indians complained.

I understand why her name was changed. I am just explaining it for those who can't always keep up.

My husband is still awfully sick. I need to tend to him now. If I miss seeing you tonight, I think I want this pic on my toaster. I am enchanted by the windows and he looks so all alone... which is how I imagine the presidency is sometimes. I'll be back later.

These "reporters" seem to go into some kind of Dumb when they get to DC. I don't get it. These aren't even rational arguments, but not only do they make them, they recycle them, over and over, and not just in one press briefing. They find a topic and bring it up ad nauseum.

Laura Bush (God bless her) did not play to the contemporary script..."I am a victim of this terrible disease, and, as such, I will do what you expect me to do and revel in it and tell you all how I now have a platform to save thousands of lives, blah, blah" and since she did not do what they have come to require, they had a cognitive dissonance that they could not handle.
