It was a day for bill signing as the president signed S. 843, the Combating Autism Act of 2006; S. 3678, the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act; and H.R. 6143, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act of 2006.

VP Cheney is to be a defense witness (for Lewis Libby) in the Valerie Plane case.

Unfortunately snugs, there are a LOT of people who say Happy Holidays. Much more than Merry Christmas. I always answer back with MC, and it usually gets one in return. But I'm in the work environment, and work is very PC. Must not offend.

One year we were all standing around talking and someone said "I'm a Christian and I celebrate Christmas." And we just went around and "voted." Even our Chinese employee wanted to celebrate Christmas. So we always have.

Now, we have a mix in the office (homosexuals), and do not feel so free to be open. It's a shame.

Have never heard of it. But it sounds wonderful.

Unfortunately, I am very allergic to perfumes now. I love them, and cannot abide them. I literally get sick. Went to emergency once when a nearby employee wore his aftershave.

I am surprised to read some of the posts on FR you would think that people think Britain is far more PC than the US yet everyone I speak to I automatically say Happy Christmas or what are you doing for Christmas without even thinking about it and they do the same to me. Local hotesl advertise Christmas dinners/parties etc

The same when corresponding to my agents worldwide I will even wish my agent in Iran a Happy Christmas and I know I will get the same greeting in return.

Here ya go. This is good enough to serve to company. I ALWAYS love this and every time I make it, I think, Why don't I make this more often!!!

SALISBURY STEAK SIMMERED in SAUCE
Makes about 5 patties

1 egg
3 T. crushed butter-flavored crackers or seasoned bread crumbs
1 T finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic chopped
1/2 t salt
1/4 t pepper
1/4 t rugged sage
1 Lb. ground beef

1 can (4 oz.) mushrooms stems and pieces, drained (I prefer fresh) optional
2 T. butter or margarine
3 T all-purpose flour

1-3/4 C. water
2 beef bouillon cubes
1/4 C. barbecue sauce
1 or 2 T. Worcestershire sauce

Hot mashed potatoes or rice

1. In a medium bowl, mix egg, crumbs, garlic, onion, salt, pepper and sage.
2. Add beef and mix well.
3. Shape into patties.
4. In a medium skillet on medium heat, cook patties for 4-5 minutes on each side or until browned; drain. While beef browns, prepare the bouillon-Worcestershire-barbecue sauce mix.
5. Remove beef to a platter and keep warm.
6. On low heat in the same skillet, melt butter and sauté mushrooms for 2 minutes.
7. Make a roux: push mushrooms to side of pan and mix flour into butter; blend well.
8. Mix water, bouillon, barbecue and Worcestershire sauces; add to roux / mushrooms mix; and stir until smooth and thickened.
9. Return patties to gravy and cook, uncovered, over low heat for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
11. Serve patties and sauce over mashed potatoes or rice.

I suspect this would taste even better with a rich red wine added into the sauce in place of some of the water.
TIP: Don't let the sauce get too thick. You'll want a lot of it to go over your mashed potatoes or rice. I recommend doubling the sauce, as a matter of fact. It's awesome.

Yes, and we have daily proof.
Sigh.

I've made something close, but put it over wide egg noodles, then a BIG spoon of sour cream on top!

Hi stopem. I love those dog photos! (And Willie too, looking very much like the Prowelmeister and making me wonder if he tries to climb the Christmas trees.)

I'm glad you get to see #1 daughter for this Christmas holiday. How / what is she doing? Has she completed her studies?

Sorry do not understand - we sell as a company quite a lot of goods into Iran so we have a company that liaises and obtains orders for us.

I can only speak for myself, being in California. I have no idea how it is elsewhere. I've always rebelled against the PC crap, and in my office I have a small lighted tree with baby Jesus ornaments. Since I represent the HR dept. at my work (I'm Accounting/Finance/HR), I should be careful. At least that's what I'm told, but I have yet to hear of anyone being offended by Christmas. I think it's mostly scare tactics.

If I remember right the USA has a ban against doing busines with any company in Iran. You could get into big trouble if you were caught.

Yes, it would be great over wide egg noodles too. Anything that soaks up that sauce would work.
