Daschle: Obama has 'unlimited potential'
By MARY CLARE JALONICK, Associated Press Writer1 hour, 9 minutes ago
Sen. Barack Obama has "almost unlimited potential" and could be a contender against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008, former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle said this week.
South Dakota's Daschle, who lost his bid for re-election in 2004, said earlier this month that he will not run for president, despite exploratory trips to politically pivotal states like Iowa and New Hampshire earlier this year. He said Monday he believes Clinton, D-N.Y., is the front-runner for his party's nomination, but that there are several others, including Obama, who could potentially beat her.
"His stock is still rising," Daschle said of Obama, D-Ill. "He's one of those rare individuals who has almost unlimited potential and seems to defy most of the laws of political gravity at this point."
Obama, elected to the Senate in 2004, has said he is mulling a presidential bid.
On the Republican side, Daschle said he believes the front-runner is Arizona Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), and "maybe" former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
"I do think there are real indications that on both sides the nominee is not a forgone conclusion," Daschle added.
As for his own aspirations, Daschle said he enjoys his current work and doesn't want to spend the next two years raising the money needed for a presidential contest.

Well of COURSE he has potential, because he has DONE NOTHING!
The bowling ball that I placed on the top of the stairs has unlimited potential, too...until I push it down the stairs.
Wait, now THERE's an idea! ;-)
Wonder how many times a day Tiny Tommy checks on Sen Johnson`s health?
As long as the Republican beats the Dem. nominee, I don't care what these idiots say.
Daschle really looks up to Obama, but then again, Daschle looks up to just about everybody over the age of seven.
Yes, he may be one of the best empty suit, platitude spitting robots disguised as intellect we've been able to prop up in quite a while, do you see how well he smiles? He talks so well (typical pandering insult to blacks) while saying absolutely nothing, perfect! I am so impressed.
His potential to mouth empty platitudes which mean nothing while smiling is unlimited, I agree.
Obama looks as invincible as Howard Dean did in 2004.
"What is he, a political embryonic stem cell?"
Mebbe Obama's like a coiled spring, storing kinetic energy, like the weasel just waiting to pop.
It will be fun to see how many dims invest in this worthless stock before the crash comes.
They are now just MINO's thanks to Sen Johnson. (Majority In Name Only);)
And that's just what makes him so perfect: he's an empty vessel waiting to be imbued with your personal hopes and dreams.
OK, I have to go barf now.

Something is purposely being omitted by the MSM...
In the Chicago Sun-Times yesterday there was an article called "The Battle of the Titans", talking about the possible match between Hillary and Obama, and quoted Evan Bayh as saying he wouldn't run for president because "there were too many Goliaths" in the race already.
Looks like deities and giants are a lot smaller and a lot less awesome than they used to be.
If I understand Obama's take on just about every issue, when he gets asked the important questions, he will prove to have the same unlimited potential as George McGovern had.
He does have that Louis Farrakhan smile.....
"what nonsense........"
No it's not. A sculptor sees potential in a hunk of rock. A painter sees it in a blank canvas. Tom Daschle sees it in an empty suit. It says far more about Daschle than it does Obama, IMO.
"Potential" is not a necessarily compliment where I'm from.
One loser talking about another one.
