Woman beaten on Jerusalem bus for refusing to move to rear seat By Daphna Berman A woman who reported a vicious attack by an ad-hoc "modesty patrol" on a Jerusalem bus last month is now lining up support for her case and may be included in a petition to the High Court of Justice over the legality of sex-segregated buses. Miriam Shear says she was traveling to pray at the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City early on November 24 when a group of ultra-Orthodox (Haredi) men attacked her for refusing to move to the back of the Egged No. 2 bus. She is now in touch with several legal advocacy and women's organizations, and at the same time, waiting for the police to apprehend her attackers.

Your thoughts?
A Jewish Rosa?
Pharisees.
"I said, I'm not moving and he said, 'I'm not asking you, I'm telling you.' Then he spat in my face and at that point, I was in high adrenaline mode and called him a son-of-a-bitch, which I am not proud of. Then I spat back."
In Israel, he would be called a Mumser Gadol. Unfortunately The Hareidi women are just as agressive as the men. My wife was shoved out of the way during the Priestly blessing last month.
Why would women, who are often accompanied by small children and shopping bags, be forced to lug their belongings to the back of a bus in the first place? Wouldn't it make more sense to put the men back there?
But if this woman had been attacked by a Muslim group their silence would be assured.
Sounds not terribly different than Sharia law.
There is a separate entrance, the back door.
I agree with her that the modesty patrol shouldn't take the law into their own hands like this. It wasn't a designated separated bus, so she was actually right. Looking for trouble, especially as a visiting tourist, but right.
I am sad, you see.....
Would they have attacked a tall, muscular male? I doubt it. And that makes them hypocrites. Do hypocritical assholes go to heaven?
Muslim Jews???
Thank you, that makes a little more sense.
She doesn't really sound 'chareidi', (if she was she never would have started this thing by sitting in the front) She's most probably an observant American.
As for your wife, How on earth did you get so close? It just looks wall-to-wall Cohanim. (or are you saying it was a woman that pushed her?)
Pretty good. We'll see how many catch on.
Couldn't help but notice that myself.
No, from what I understand they probably would.
I thought the same thing. This troubled me, and I waited to see how Freepers would respond, or if any would even take notice. Not good. Not good at all -- on so many levels. I didn't expect it from Israel.
You don't think someone would trump up this kind of story to make Israel look bad at this juncture. The Muslim countries know by now how poorly we look upon their treatment of women and point to Israel as a model of democracy.
The weather's fair, I see.
"Ultra orthodox" anything is usually bad news; old practices tend to be primitive.
