Riddle Me This, Batman. Why Do We Reelect These People?

In The Great State of North Carolina, the voters have recently reelected a District Attorney who has colluded with a forensic lab technician to exclude exculpatory evidence from a rape case. According to the Durham-In-Wonderland Blog, this violates two major points of law. These are North Carolina’s Open Discovery Law and The US Supreme Court precedent established in The Brady Case.

While tampering with the DNA evidence, Nifong also tampered as heavily as possible with the media coverage concerning the incident as well. Even the Ultra-Left Wing 60 Minutes published a damning critique of his methods of handling the press.

“D.A. Nifong referred to the lacrosse players “a bunch of hooligans” whose “daddies could buy them expensive lawyers.” He played up the racial aspects of the case, but insisted that his public comments had nothing to do with the hotly contested election campaign he was waging in a city with a large black population.” - Oct 15, 2006

When the Late Ed Bradlee accuses you of pandering to left wing voters, Arthur Fonzarelli has jumped the shark. If this were The Gong Show, instead of reality, Mike Nifong would be escorted off stage by the nice, burly men who remove the untalented performers who refuse to leave. Nifong has become an embarrassment to American Justice and a compelling symbol of just how close political correctness comes to veering into fascist territory in pursuit of ideological purity.

Bradlee further describes Nifong’s prosecutorial techniques below:

“District Attorney Mike Nifong, who had declared that DNA would be the crux of his case, played down the results, speculating that the absence of DNA meant that the attackers may have used condoms, although the accuser had already stated that there were “no condoms used”, and that at least one of her three attackers had ejaculated inside her. Although it was a major setback for his case, the D.A. said he was undeterred.

"For most of the years I’ve been doing this we didn’t have DNA. We had to deal with sexual assault cases the good old-fashioned way – witnesses got on the stand and told what happened to them," Nifong stated.”

The final shoe dropped when District Attorney, Mike Nifong, was shown to have clearly cherry-picked his DNA evidence. Thomas Sowell describes the fiasco as follows:

“After all this time, it finally came out in court last week that the DNA samples collected from the underwear and private parts of the alleged victim contained DNA from other men -- but none from the Duke lacrosse players who were accused of raping her.

The head of the DNA testing laboratory testified in court under oath that both he and Nifong knew this and kept it secret.

You think that is incredible? How about a statement made afterwards by District Attorney Nifong that he didn't say anything about this publicly because he was "trying to avoid dragging any names through the mud"?” 19 December 2006

The case has been a disaster not only for the three accused lacrosse players, but also for The Town of Durham and Duke University. According to the Raleigh News and Observer,

“Applications for early admission to Duke University dropped by nearly 20 percent this year in the aftermath of the lacrosse scandal.

This year, 1,198 students applied early to Duke, committing to enroll if they received an offer of admission. That is a decline from 1,496 early decision applicants last year.” 15 December 2006

This should come as no surprise, given that the climate in Durham has become considerably worse for all university students since the trial began. The Duke University student newspaper describes the actions of The Durham PD Officer Mike Gottlieb.

“The attorney's examination of 32 bookings Gottlieb made in the final months of 2005 and in January 2006 revealed that 19 of the booked individuals were Duke students and the remaining 13 were not students.

While 16 out of the 19 students were arrested--most for nonviolent crimes such as noise-ordinance and open container violations--only six of the 13 non-students were arrested, the crimes they committed ranging from impersonating a police officer to assault on a female.” 11 September 2006

With all of the damage that Mike Nifong has done to Duke University and given his total lack of any professional ethics, how has Mike Nifong’s political career fared? It seems to be going swimmingly. He won a hard primary race specifically because of his behavior in The Duke Rape Case and cruised to reelection as Durham District Attorney unopposed.

So riddle me this, Batman. Why do we as a nation continue to reelect jerks like Mike Nifong?

Mike Nifong is the classic example of the talentless white guy who race ponders his way into a totally undeserved career in politics. Why, oh why hasn't this jerk been disbarred?

Disbarrment proceedings may just be around the corner after this case reaches it's conclusion and people start looking at Nifong's behavior. May he rot in the hell he's created for himself. I wonder if criminal charges could be brought against him for this conduct?

“D.A. Nifong referred to the lacrosse players “a bunch of hooligans” whose “daddies could buy them expensive lawyers.”

These Hooligans’ daddies’ expensive lawyers might just bring lawsuits against him and the city of Durham for wrongful prosecution. Considering the publicity the case has gotten it should be quite a settlement.

So riddle me this, Batman. Why do we as a nation continue to reelect jerks like Mike Nifong?

For the same reason that a jury acquitted O.J. Simpson. And for the same reason Cynthia McKinney was re-elected in 2004. And for the same reason that Charles Rangel, John Conyers, and Maxine Waters continue to run unopposed in their respective congressional districts.

Need I continue?

If only they could get to Mike Nifong personally instead. He needs to be made an example of.

Forty to Forty Five percent of the Sheeple in this country will vote for anyone that has a (D) after his or her name. Need more evidence. Unitl this year, the reelection of Cynthia McKinney. The reelection of Nagin in New Orleans. The constant reelection of Teddy Kenedy. And it goes on and on and on.

I'm convinced these same people would vote for Stalin or Lenin if they ran for office in some parts of this country today. That's what shape this country is in, politically and the GOP just laid down and let it happen.

We need to reinstate the original rules of the Republic - you can only vote if you own a certain significant level of property.

The public school system has achieved its aim of dumbing on the populace.

It's discouraging. How many people does an idiot like Nagin have to kill before the populace gets a clue?

I like the idea from Starship Troopers. A mandatory 2 year hitch of military service before you get suffrage or are allowed to seek office.

"Forty to Forty Five percent of the Sheeple in this country will vote for anyone that has a (D) after his or her name."

Not really what's in play here. Nifong is a (D) so he won? No way, bud. He stoked racial and class hatred.

Lot's of folks here just don't get it. White folks generally are not particularly brought to to be "pro-white" or adhere to "rules" pertaining to racial allegiance. If anything, we are taught that is bad. It has been my experience that the exact opposite is true among blacks. Buy black, read black, watch black, talk black, vote black, etc. This is a huge cultural disconnect, I think, that blacks falsely assume whites do as well but whites seem oblivious to this fact about blacks.

That's how these people keep getting elected. In this case, racial allegiance. Not because the man is black but because he was promising what no one else would. Rich white boys heads on a stick. That is the ugly elephant in this room.
