COLUMBUS, Ohio - It was the sort of commonplace misbehavior that raises blood pressure across the nation's roads: kids, out after midnight, egging cars along a busy thoroughfare.
This time, though, the mischief turned deadly. The driver of a targeted gray Jeep barreled after the boys and someone inside pulled a gun, firing multiple shots that killed 14-year-old Danny Crawford.
Police are still seeking the gunman more than two weeks after Crawford's death. They have interviewed the Jeep's owner but aren't saying if that person is a suspect.

It's only known to be attempted vandalism after the fact. At the time, was there any way to tell if those large objects they were throwing were eggs or egg-sized stones (which can kill)?
"Shooting an egg thrower who is fleeing is not correctly interpreting the second amendment.
I know that FR can be a tough crowd and I expect to be flamed but it won't change my mind"
Not so tough, in real life when a guy is so unbalanced as to claim the views you will see on this thread, then you can inquire into his life to date.
When a guy is as tough, and mean, and violent as these "keyboard commandos" their history would prove it with arrests, knife fights, involvement in shootings, and truly bloody fistfights etc.
When a 30 or 40 year old guy talks the talk, with no history of walking the walk, then you know your are talking to a fantasy boy.
My post #30 is in response to your #13 being deleted.
One Question...was it a hate crime.
That's all that matters anymore anyway...
What difference does it make? Eggs can kill too. Suddenly startling a driver while simultaneously obstructing his/her vision by covering the windshield with egg can easily result in a fatal accident. These kids are trying to cause accidents, and should be prosecuted and sentenced ruthlessly.
This "prank" can get you 1-5yr in Virginia:

Snowballing cars on the Mass Turn Pike ain't so bright either. Not that I know this from personal experience
I agree. But I'd still like to see the shooter in this case up on second-degree murder charges, or at the very least voluntary manslaughter.
There's more than enough stupid in that story for everybody.

Only if you know that it's an egg. If you think it might be a large rock (which is deadly if thrown at you at highway speeds) then deadly force is a legitimate defense.
One who takes aggressive action against another should not be surprised when that person responds in kind.
Illegalities aside, the fact remains that action begets retaliation.
I've played the egg toss game at company outings years ago. It can get messy.
What logic. Oh, you're a browns fan, that 'splains it. Too much acid in the water. Dennis kukukucinich, step-on-me tubbs...lunatic fringe?
"It's only known to be attempted vandalism after the fact. "
Just think of the reality of the situation. I think imminent danger is the key here. The egg was thrown. The driver and passenger survived. No serious injury. No immediate threat. Once the object impacts the vehicle, it is obvious what happened, and that the threat is over.
Angry, outraged, sure. I'd be furious. But, the danger has passed. Sitting in a stationary vehicle, thrown eggs are no threat to the occupants. Chasing the kids down and shooting them is punitive murder to a dangerous vandalism.
Stupid, and barbaric.
Don't egg gridlock on.
I got egged as a child by some punk on a bike. Not fun. However, I was on a unicycle, so maybe he thought I'd catch it and start juggling.
I agree. "They pissed me off, officer," is not an excuse for murdering someone.
Geez, what's it doing to my stomach lining?

That is worth filing away. Thanks!
