Somebody gets it.........
I dont usually agree with money grab lawsuits, but this one I can get behind if it teaches these types of companies a lesson.
Some MBA probably got a raise for that.
Well, one thing you gotta say for those lawyers -- they don't let any grass grow under their feet, that's for sure.
RICO? I'll buy an ice-cold coke for any young, hard-driving go-getter supplying a copy of the Complaint.
(Or a shiny new dime.)
If they can actually prove a drop from $20 to $13 an hour, they'll win their case. Swift will argue those were different job descriptions. That's pretty high pay for TX.
This is the (only) kinda stuff that will wake up Rats vis-a-vis immigration.
All we gotta do now is prove that it's ILLEGALS keeping the minimum wage artificially low.
This is an interesting development. There's no mention of broken union contract, so this plant must not be one of the unionized ones. If so, it seems the former workers will have to prove Swift knew it was hiring illegals. OTOH, Swift may make substantial settlement just to avoid further publicity about this and the risk that they may have to make incriminating admissions at discovery.
Not all Swift plants were unionized but the union put pressure on them to keep workers who couldn't prove they were here legally.
The last factory I worked in started hiring illegals through a "temp service". They doubled the size of the workforce but cut everyone's hours to part time.
When they cut everyone's hours it wiped out the people trying to raise families on the $9 to $15 leaving the $6 an hour temporary part timers.
So, why are these former employees not employees?
It doesn't matter which party wakes up, $13 or $20 an hour people do not donate much to political campaigns. Swift and the rest of the Corp Pimps work both parties.
I tried to get a job at a meat plant and I was the only anglo on there interview list. I am sure there argument would be I had no experience, then again I bet I was the only legal person on that interview sheat.
Good for them! When large corporations use this tactic, it should fall under the RICO ACT, since management obviously conspired to break the law by hiring ILLEGAL workers!! IF some of those fat cats did a little jail time, it might result in a change of policy.
ROFLMAO!!!
looks about right.
Same thing happened here in KS.
Packers were 15-20 an hour in the late 80s, (with healthcare, etc) now down to 7.00/hr, no benes today for the illegals.
Whoa there, I thought they were doing jobs NO ONE ELSE WOULD DO.
