He has a lot more freedom this way. An elected official has to walk the line between truth and what's politically correct.

Hmmmm...Putting aside the idea that I'd like to see the Dept. of Edu. dissolved, Secretary of Education? He could actually have major impact there.

So...why didn't Bill Bennett get rid of it when he had the chance?

I don't see a big future for the Iraq Study Group Report/911 Commission Report boxed gift set.

LOL. No, governs, we are Catholic and if they were running on a Friday, we just swallowed them live. No mackerels, go for the smelt. You go with what you have :)

Bennet said he quit Ed because he realized that the levers of power were not connected to anything. We have an arrogant, self-perpetuating bureaucracy which resists civiian control and change.

I never remember him standing up like a man when he was at the helm and saying, "take this wall down!"

Great post. Everybody seems to think they're running the table on W.
They're not even in the game.

***Hey, wait a minute, we used to go down to the lake when the smelt were running and catch them in buckets. Then we smoked them. ***

How did you roll them so they would not fall out the ends of the papers?

So, in other words, we taxpayers just paid an enormous amount (of which I could probably retire on comfortably) for bullshit. Is that correct?...just wondering....

ISG is deader than a smelt.

It smelt like a smelt from the git-go.

"So...why didn't Bill Bennett get rid of it when he had the chance?"

I've wondered the same thing. John Kasich was in favor of dumping it, too. I really like Bennett. Haven't seen much of him lately, but he was looking pretty funky the last few interviews I saw him do. Just didn't look well.

I didn't know he said that. He's right, of course, but I wish he hadn't abandoned the ship.
