Well, once I saw a soviet internal passport on the 5th line ["nationality", or rather, "ethnicity"] of which it was written: "half-Jew". From which it could be seen that the word usages vary, and the reporter might have been a bit out of phase.

Perhaps it's just a way of saying that she acknowledges both halves of her religious heritage?
If a person has a jewish parent and a christian parent, they must choose one or the other? I admit to not being a very religious person but I don't really understand an objection to such a thing.
