VP's real value is in garnering votes the Presidential candidate might not get. I think Santorum and Hunter have much the same base. We are also likely looking at running against a Dem ticket with a Black and/or female on it. A VP candidate who could bring additional gender, ethnic or geographical support might be better. Or how about Zel Miller? That would twist some toga's. Or maybe a military man/woman.

Good point. Maybe Michael Steele...

He isn't charismatic, nor does he care to be. "Unpleasant" is a phrase that is used to describe him.

By who, exactly?

By people who work with him on a regular basis.

But "charisma" is pretty much relative, anyway.

If he were, say, next to Howard Phillips, Hunter would have tons of charisma.

Come on. Be nice. Everyone doesn't have to jump on the Hunter bandwagon, yet.

GR is representative of so many sheeple. He lets the MSM lead him around on their leash.

The beauty with the internet is that we can actively support someone like Hunter and once GR Discovers that most conservatives are fleeing from Rudy McRomney, he'll follow, like he always has in the past.

His brother heads a group that leaves water and supplies in the desert areas to help illegals coming into the country.

I've got several Aunts who are flaming liberals. That's the thing with blood relatives - you don't get to pick 'em.

Head & shoulders above the rest of the pack. Unfortunately name recognition is a problem, and with MSM being what it is, it will be a long haul.

"Having looked over his record, he looks like the real deal."

He is. And he will make a great President.

I like this guy. It will be a test of his fortitude to rise from his status as a lowly House member (albeit a powerful one) to national recognition in the next year.

Right now, he and Brownback are the only fresh things on the menu, and I'm skittish about nominating a Senator: a House member would carry an advantage in avoiding the elitist stigma.

If he can pull off the very tall order of achieving national recognition in the next year, he will have demonstrated enormous fortitude and would deserve the nod.

"Unpleasant" is a phrase that is used to describe him.

By who? You? Source, please.

There is an interesting dynamic in his family. His brother heads a group that leaves water and supplies in the desert areas to help illegals coming into the country.

And yes, he has a brother that helps the aliens in the desert, and it's caused quite a rift between them. Doesn't look like Hunter sells out because of the interests of family. Wish I could say that for MOST of our current politicians, don't you?

The open border minority just hates Duncan Hunter, which is his greatest plus!

"If he can pull off the very tall order of achieving national recognition in the next year,"

It isn't, in the most part, for him to "pull off". It's how many supporters work, and how hard they work, to pull it off that counts.

You can't put the racist card on Hunter. He has shown true compassion and can still uphold the law! Amazing!

(snip)

Duncan is unapologetic.

"The real question for the politicians in Mexico is what are you doing to your people to make them want to cross burning deserts to get away?" he said.

Currently, the Border Patrol has fencing on less than 4 percent of the U.S.-Mexico divide, or about 70 miles.

Let Freedom Ring, a group that advocates tighter border security, pegs the cost of building a fence along the entire border at $8 billion. An AP-Ipsos poll in late March found that two-thirds of those surveyed do not think it would work.

Duncan reluctantly acknowledges that tougher enforcement in San Diego pushed some migrants into the desert, where many have died. His remedy: extend San Diego's steel-and-mesh barriers along the entire border.

"If you had 400 high school students dying in a canal each year, the first thing you'd do is fence it," he said.

John said he has never voted for Duncan, figuring that his brother didn't need the support. But he has called on his brother to help his effort to save lives. Duncan once joined him in the desert and, according to John, gave $3,000 to Water Stations from his campaign fund.

I hear what you're saying. He does need to have the apparatus, however, to organize some sort of national network. That means leadership from him and his campaign leaders. Unless I'm missing something...

As far as making calls, attaching bumper stickers, sticking yard signs, those are things we can all do. Some of us can donate while others, with the gift of time and energy, can do the work paid for by those donations.

Even our discussing him as a candidate is a plus for him because others read it and see his name.

But I would think it's up to him to get the snowball rolling - which in itself is a look at his organizational skills and ability to govern, no?

I don't think he is defeatist, I think he is merely pointing out it is very difficult to go from the House of Representatives to the White House. It's not defeatist IMO, it is framing the discussion. I think it is important to go in to '08 with eyes open and few misconceptions, if everyone is aware of how difficult the leap is then those backing Congressman Hunter should be prepared for a long hard fight going forward.

AB-SO-EFFEN-LOOT-LEE **WRONG!**
I DO like Hunter. He is one of the good guys.
I do not bash him and wish that he had a stronger support base that would gain him higher office.
How could you misinterpert my posts so badly?
If Duncan Hunter were President we would be well on our way toward a safer, more secure, more stable America.

But I know that that is a forlorn hope and I am not given toward daydreams. Hunter for Pres in 2008 is not going to occur.
If a Republican or anomaly Independent Conservative were to be elected, I would suppose that Mr.Hunter would be an excellent SecDef.

Now calm down, take a breath and stop being accusatory toward those who have more to agree with you about than argue with you about.

:~)

Thank you for this information.

Duncan Hunter is my first choice, I sure hope it happens. If not then Newt, but no way on earth am I voting for Rudy or McCain. And not to vote makes me feel sick even thinking about it. I never did that before.
