Freepers from Oregon, Western Washington, Vancouver island: ALERT!!! Major storm forecast today, and it's not like yesterday was exactly a nice May day either. This could be the biggest of the year. If you have a thermos, make your coffee now! Widespread power outages predicted.
Winds expected to start very high on the coast this afternoon, moving into Puget Sound by the latter part of the evening and continuing very high until mid morning.
Batten down the hatches!

(Port Angeles) -- It could be a wild weather night for the North Olympic Peninsula. The National Weather Service says another storm is expected to bring very strong winds and rain to the state later today and continuing into tomorrow. Sustained winds of 40 miles per hour or more are forecast for both sides of the Cascades -- and the weather service says gusts could reach 80 or 90 miles per hour on the coast. Meteorologist Jay Albrecht with the Seattle National Weather Service office tells Newsradio 1450 KONP an intense low is expected to form today and move onto the North Olympic Peninsula sometime tonight -- possibly between 8 and 10 o'clock. He says computer models show once the low passes off to the northeast, there will be a very strong westerly surge through the Strait of Juan de Fuca, with 60 to 80 mile an hour winds possible over the water. Albrecht says the area he is worried about the most tonight is the west side of Whidbey Island, but all water-exposed areas could get hammered. Forecasters have a high wind watch in effect for all of Western Washington.
We're getting power spikes here in Bellevue, and it isn't even windy yet. Five power outages, of a couple minutes each, in the last hour.
Odd, that.
And the passes are getting some snow:
WSDOT Mountain Passes (Webcams)
When is it expected to pour?
I show only a 30% chance of showers on Sunday.
Not a big deal, but I'm sure the local press will find a pile of ten damp leaves to do a 2 hour weather report around.
This IS HUGE!
We went to town at dawn to get supplies and plug in all the medical equipment for back up power.
No we don't have a generator but are skilled in ICU care to maintain at home (even without a storm) for XXXX amount of weeks...
One good idea came in for all ya'll on wells and great working down spouts....put some water in the Bath tub so as to use a flush water.
This Sum of a gum is hugh ugh...
We got two hrs. in sleep before deciding to get supplies we were lean on.
Reporting from Npt Oregon....
Heck we just had Surf contests here got some good wave pics as I understand it...
No this one is a hell on wind dude...normally we sleep through these they don't take us out before we report....
Cripes this is the worst case scenerio for those fellows....we still have hope.
YES you hit nail on the ole Head!
We are wheelchair barrior free lift dependant so will go lay down for awhile and get back up before the brunt hits so we can move to safer sides of the "coastal rain forrest" estate as needed..
We have all needs to sustain a month...
Over kill but we are good to go!
Both places have an abundance of evergreens with some old growth thrown in. NC has the big pines, whereas the NW has the spruces and so forth. Temperature-wise they are fairly similar with the Pac NW being less extreme. Rainfall, it's also usually pretty similar. NC just has the rain spread out over the year more. And the terrain where I am is hilly in a similar manner to back home.
Interesting, no?
HairoftheDog it is me King Vanity.
Gotta go git out of the Chair for awhile but hope to be on line when the 100mph winds hit all the trees my nieghbors would not limb up for such an occansion.
I am soooo glad we did that over the years as them pups will stand.
God Bless. KV and OP
Yeah we can't get the boat out here in Central Oregon so we are holding on....got a taste from Astoria....
Christmas is going to be Sweeeet. when ya miss something ya take for granted.
Hi KV! I hope you and your mom (and all the pooches!) are well and safe, and look forward to your reports as this storm hits!
If your road is that wet to begin with, more rain or melting snow will NOT be helpful.
This is not a good wind a blowin' girl...
I have made all the safety requirements for KV and I and Thank God someone or two cut limbs the right way... LOL
We have never seen one blow this kinda way but folks talk about a loooong tale...
Maybe we all need whipin' wind to get back together...gotta goooo
That photo is from Trailridge road in Colorado ...and likely early summer...course I have seen snow fall,,,,light ...up there in August....
The 3 Men on the Hill need more prayer as put forward here also...
Beautiful, but you would have to respect trying to pass by there especially in winter.
Nature can get you killed.
I have had it with the wind myself....like you, we had all of our really taller and weaker trees taken out last spring...the only ones the left were the more healthy stronger trees...still I have many many talls still standing...
My son, who lives up in Seattle, said, last nite, some limbs came down in his yard, and wipe out the electric for a block or so...but the city came right out, almost immediately and made the repairs and got them up and running again...who knows what tonite is going to bring...
I wish it would all just stop..we have had enough rain and wind to last us for the rest of the winter...I fear, there will be lots more of this to come, in the next few months..
My landscape guy was just here yesterday, to put up my outdoor Christmas lights...pulled up in his Bobcat, full of trunks and limbs and such from a tree he had to pull off of one of his customers roofs...it was a mess, so he reported...
I hope I will have no need of his Bobcat myself...
But right now, here in Olympia, its dark, rainy, and the wind is really kicking up, so I guess it will be a night full of wind and rain, and whatever else may happen...
