How is that a "civil action" when the cops take it? Doesn't sound very civil to me..

No it isnt, but the guy had a forged passport, meaning he was an illegal with $1M.

That's a leap...although I'm sure you don't recognize it.

Having a forged passport doesn't make you an illegal.

LOL - I agree, but that is in fact what happens. The police seize the money and then take a civil action against the money to keep it.

I know it sounds insane but that is America the war on drugs has brought.

hmmmmmmmm.Was he speeding?

I guess he was speeding because the police said he was.

Found that out last Wednesday. Was traveling east bound on two lane highway. There was a truck about 500 feet in front of me. State Trooper was traveling West bound made a u-turn as he past me. Turned his lights on so I pulled over. He went past me and pulled the truck over. Motioned for me to pull up behind his car. The Trooper came back to my vehicle and said "do you know why I pulled you over?" My reply was "no". Trooper told me I was following behind the truck and running the same speed and he had clocked the truck's speed at 65 miles an hour.

I know how fast I was traveling. fifty-seven mph. Didn't argue with him and he only gave me a warning ticket.

Don't have a problem with the Trooper pulling me over. Even if it was for doing 2 mph over the speed limit as I was actually breaking the law. What I didn't like was his excuse for doing so. If he wanted to give me a speeding ticket for being 2mph over the speed limit, fine I would pay it willingly. What I hate is to be told a damn lie.

$1Milliom in cash has to smell pretty strong, IMO.

Wives and girlfriends respond to it immediately.

one of which is any transportation of cash over $9,999 could be illegal if you don't report it and have the proper documentation showing the source for the case.

Help me to understand. If it is my intention to drive to Florida with 10 thousand in cash to pay for my vacation, just who do I report it to?

If stopped you volunteer the information to the officer (if needed), and I would at least have a copy of the bank statement or whatever where it came from.

I agree. The freest nation on earth is hanging onto freedom by a thread.

Got it. Thanks for the info -- our local police just did saturation patrols in some of the city's tough neighborhoods...I was wondering exactly what it meant.

I wish I knew why SCOTUS kept upholding these fishing expeditions when they're clearly counter to the 4th Amendment.

Why is it a leap? (Of course maybe the passport really wasn't forged, who knows....)

I don't know why (and I say this in all honesty) why so many on this board feel compelled to be such self-smug jackasses. I only asked a question and received snide hostility in return.

Thank you and Merry Christmas.

Lawyers, the people expecting the payment, family but if they want to they'll take it and there's nothing you can do about it. All they have to do is have suspicion and for 10 large, it's tempting to be "suspicious" if they need to buy a new tech toy for the dept. or Christmas bonuses.

It's "for the children" so we can fight drug use. It's ignorance and it's elitism at that level. At the street level and dept. level it's pure unadulterated greed.

Let's take this from the top. I'm supposing that because this guy is showed the cops a forged passport that he may be an illegal alien. Now I'm not so sure how that's a leap of logic (which you attest yet refuse to backup).

I could understand your pointing out that my reasoning was a real leap of logic if I surmised that becuase the guy had a forged passport that he was Chinese, liked line-dancing, or some such illogical conlcusion drawn from his arrest on suspicion of carrying a forged passport.

However, as most folks don't generally use their passports as identification while traveling internally in the USA, my conclusion that he may be an illegal alient isn't way off base.

Try not to appear to be so snide and condencending. It really isn't very nice.

That's not a leap of logic, now that you added "may be an illegal alien."

Your Post #176 was a leap:

No it isnt, but the guy had a forged passport, meaning he was an illegal with $1M.

See, I didn't even have to tell you...you figured it all out by yourself.
