Is Norman Finkelstein in Tehran?
Frontpagemagazine ^ | 12-13-06 | Alan M. Dershowitz

Posted on 12/13/2006 5:50:16 AM PST by SJackson

The mullahs' anti-Semitic hatefest gets underway.

A neo-Nazi website has published the schedule of speakers at the Iranian Holocaust denial conference:

Prominent among the speakers in the schedule is assistant professor Norman Finkelstein of DePaul University.  His name appears along with Professor David Duke of the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management in Ukraine and other assorted nuts, neo-Nazis, Islamo-fascists, and America- and Israel-bashers.

It is unclear whether Finkelstein actually attended the conference, since the identity of many of the attendees has been kept secret, and the media office at DePaul says it doesn’t know.  But Finkelstein certainly fits comfortably into the hate club, since he has allied himself closely with the Holocaust denial movement by trivializing the suffering of its victims and denying that many of them were victims at all.  It would be natural for the rulers of Iran to have invited this Jew-hater to their hatefest.  I don’t know if they did, or if Finkelstein accepted any such invitation.  But the burden is now on him to explain why his name appears in the schedule and to produce all correspondence with the sponsors of the conference.  It should make interesting reading.

If you'd like to be on this middle east/political ping list, please FR mail me.

High Volume. Articles on Israel can also be found by clicking on the Topic or Keyword Israel. or WOT [War on Terror]

It seems to me DePaul University has an obligatin to clear this issue up as well. They are the reason for Norman's "credibility" as an academic.

Is anybody there that does not like the Jews , period. Wait when the demos take over they and liberal Hollyweird Jews will throw Israel to the wolves, and of course blame it on GW. Wait it is coming look what the demos let them do before 911. I guess it is up the Jews to defend them selves.

He was given a PhD a few years ago from the Ukrainian Interregional Academy of Personnel Management, his thesis "Zionism as a Form of Ethnic Supremacism". It's a large school, in the tens of thousands enrollment, and I think he's on the teaching staff.

Just a guess. He's up for tenure, and there's some concern about his relationship to the 2nd place cartoon in the Iranian cartoon contest, as well as his use of his title, Professor, in some of his anti-semitic activities. Turning up in Iran as Professor Finkelstein from DePaul might embarass DePaul, who should be ashamed of hiring Finkelstein knowing his views, and harm his tenure bid.

The answer to Alan's question might be in the article below. Finkelstein had a calendar conflict, he was testifying yeaterday in support of two Hamas terrorists. Wonder how long it takes to fly from Chicago to Tehran?

Prosecution rests at US trial of 2 men accused of aiding Hamas

Norman Finkelstein of Chicago's DePaul University, took the stand Tuesday night to give the judge a sampling of his expertise. He claimed Israel has sought to influence American reporters and the result has been a bias in favor of that nation in the U.S. news media.

Deutsch said after court that he wants jurors to hear from Finkelstein as a counter to prosecution witness Judith Miller, a former New York Times reporter, who testified that she saw Salah being interrogated.

Finkelstein said Israel has tortured Palestinian detainees.

Why does Israel let these people live? I just don't get it. Finklestein should have been deprived of his life years ago. And every minute that Ahmedinijad lives is a grave insult to the million butchered in the Holocaust. Kill him!

My bet is Finklestein would not attend this "Holocaust conference". It would ruin his anti-Zion credibility. Not that I believe a damn thing this loon has to say

I'd be shocked if he's not there, along with the other Neo-Nazis. Yesterday in an article on this event Reuters deemed David Duke an "academic" and a Republican. No mention that he was the Grand Wizard of the KKK. And of course Jim Baker wants the US to open a dialogue with the host of this Neo-Nazi reunion pretending to be a "conference" with "historians." Kirk Douglas is right. The world IS a mess.

Finklestein should have been deprived of his life years ago.

But are you aware what is the main claim of Finkelstein? It is that the unscrupulous self promoting individuals/groups make profit at the expense of real survivors. He does not deny that Holocaust happens.

Would you want to kill him for saying that?

See post 9, he had a conflicting commitment in Chicago. I doubt the judge would delay the trial of two Hamas supporters so a witness could appear at a Holocaust denial conference. I think he has time to make it though. I can't believe DePaul is considering giving him tenure. Of course I couldn't believe they hired them in the first place.

I don't want Israel killing Americans. IMO Ahmedinijad is a legitimate target, but it would be a political disaster. Other than in conjunction with a strike on Iran's nuclear facilities, of course, in which case the political leadership should be taken out as well.

Maybe, but he didn't hesitate to promote a cartoon from Iran's contest. I admit the conference is a larger step outside of acceptable western mainstream anti Israel norms.

This is a tough competitive world for the colleges. Getting a well known even if controversial figure makes the school more visible and interesting. And it enhances the image of academic independence.

IIRC DePaul is a Catholic founded university. It has many Muslim supremacists on faculty. It is very Muslim friendly. It's the Cath-Muzz connection
