I know this is long but there has been so much Romney bashing here of late that I thought this article, which provides a positive view of his accomplishments and character, also gives a much needed balance to the discussion.

Its posting is in now way indicative of an endorsement on my part.

He seems to be an astute business person! And clever too. I like the part about being tenacious and looking into obscure numbers before deciding what to do. He's obviously very bright and capable.

If only he hadn't signed the Massachusetts assault weapon ban! At the time he made several very anti-gun statements, probably not surprising since he was trying to save the people in Massachusetts from deadly high capacity magazines and rifles with flash hiders.

Because of him, if you wish to use an AR-15 in high power competition, you must get a special "high capacity" permit, just to own a mag of over ten rounds. Same for a Model 41 target .22, since it's designed for a 12 round mag. It's a high capacity weapon!

Thanks for the post. It's nice to have some more information about Governor Romney. I suspect there will not be a "perfect" candidate for us conservatives in 2008.

Sorry, lost me in the first couple of paragraphs. Staples is SO overpriced. I never shop there.

The President is the CEO of the Executive department (no small operation!). Someone with demonstrated success in an executive position would be preferable to someone who has no business experience. I honestly didn't know much about Romney. Thanks for the post. The more info about the candidates, the better.

Thanks for the post.

In addition to providing a positive look at Romney's accomplishments, this is an excellent piece of journalism.

Interesting reading and a very worthy post. As far as Romney goes, I was not previously in favor of him in any way but this article has opened my eyes to his positive aspects. I continue to have misgivings about his anti-gun stances and morality areas. It will certainly make for interesting discussions over the next two years.

I think when Republicans realize that their only viable primary choices are Giuliani, McCain and Romney, they will hand Romney the nomination decisively.

He is far and away the smartest, sanest, most experienced executive in the lot. He looks great, he's very likeable, he's got great integrity, and I think the mainstream voters will like him once they get to know him.

He is the most conservative Republican candidate with a real shot running.

I have no doubt that he will be a much better president than George Bush.

I may not be in agreement with him on all the issues, but certainly he is orders of magnitude more qualifed and capable than McCain. And he is more conservative than Giuliani.

This is all well and good, but the Romney Campaign is finished. It is done. No more money will be raised, except perhaps from the Gerbil Lobby. Buh bye Mitt.

Romney's great strength is that he's a manager -- a business-oriented administrator -- rather than an ideologue or professional politician. It also may be a great weakness, since business-oriented managerial leaders often don't quite get the human factor in politics and government.

Reasons to like Romney:

He was against abortion after he was for it.

He was against gay rights after he was for it.

He's from Massachusetts. Gotta be OK.

A change of pace, perhaps. Sorry there's so much reading involved. ;-)

Romney isn't going to win any FR straw polls. Fortunately for him, FR opinion represents a tiny and shrinking minority of Republican voters.

Romney may be the first person who'll take on entitlement programs.
