Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents raided six Swift & Co. plants this morning with civil search warrants, arresting illegal immigrants working at the plants.
Barbara Gonzalez, an ICE public affairs officer, said they dont have any numbers on how many people will be taken out of any of the plants and probably wont have that number until Wednesday. She said Swift is not facing any charges right now, but the investigation is continuing.
At this point, a civil search warrant allows us to search the premises to find any illegal aliens. The strong point here is that a lot of U.S. citizens and U.S. residents have been victimized ... by a large scale identify theft scheme, Gonzalez said.
Agents entered the beef plant through a west door of the beef plant carrying up to 100 handcuffs on a chain at about 7:30 a.m.
Gonzalez said other plants entered included beef plants in Grand Island, Neb., Cactus, Texas and Hyrum, Utah, and pork plants in Marshalltown, Iowa and Worthington, Minn.
I wonder if such crimes were figured into Texas's recent study into how wonderful and economically beneficial illegal immigrants are.
I have no expectation that any will be dealt with in the legal manner BUT just keeping ICE on the move with such action has to have some positive effect and keep these criminals on the run. Business should be punished into bankruptcy if they continue to do nothing because they are not "required" to do what they should be doing. Seems honesty and laws only apply to working citizens.
Maybe they did that for effect.
They are whining that this shouldn't be happening to them at Christmas, on a "holy day." Well, how about not breaking our laws and it won't happen. This needs a counter protest.
Political speak for amnesty.
Depends upon how much veracity you give to the pseudo-Catholic incidents around the world. I mean, do we really need a holy day for every mysterious appearance of the Blessed Virgin on everything from toast to bird splat? At what point does the fiasco cease to be veneration of Mary and become some kind of blasphemy (if it wasn't outright idolatry, already), and who's the fool in THAT picture?
"Today, I came out to my field and was astonished to see that my ox had sh@t a perfect statue of the Blessed Mother. So, I captured fuzzy images on a cheap digital camera and uploaded them to the internet. Today must be a holy day. We are already building a shrine and the people of the villiage are bringing gifts. I feel so very honored that this would happen to me; that my ox would be chosen for such a great sign as this."
Call it "life imitating South Park".
Hey immigration apologists, explain this from the Greeley Tribune:
The crowd has begun to die down since the morning. The scene has been sometimes tense, but police have had some success in calming them down.
Andres Guerrero, who teaches Spanish at Aims Community College, joined the protesters. He said, In ten years were going to take over the southland, trust me. This is our land and always will be our land.
We Christians don't have "holy days" per-se. Every day is equally given by God.
These guys would pull a scrap of paper out of their pocket with a scrawled SSN on it. If that particular SSN wasn't already in the carrier's database, it was accepted. If it took a "hit" and the SSN was already used by another customer, they would sometimes say "Wait, that's the wrong one, I have another one."
Now if they would just hit the new costructions sites.
This never would of happened if John Kerry were President.
thanks for the insite on the cellular phone companies. it compliments what I have experienced in the PI world.
Flores, Rivera, Correa, Lopez, Rosas....stolen identities by illegals of their SS numbers, all victims with HISPANIC last names!!
Good. The LEGAL hispanic community will be up in arms over their numbers being used by illegals.
Cynthia Chaparro began work at the plant about three weeks ago and was inside the plant at the time of the raid. She said the workers had just gone on break when the raid began. Some workers tried to run when the saw agents, but agents captured them and held them down on the floor of the cafeteria, Chaparro said. She said the remaining workers have been talking about quitting in hopes of shutting down Swift. She estimated about 300 people had been taken from the plant. Another worker, Kathleen Perez, said about half the plants workforce was gone.
The scene outside the Swift & Co. beef packing plant has swung back and forth in intensity. A crowd of protesters has shouted at Greeley police, cars that appear to belong to the plant or anyone deemed connected to the ICE raid carried out at the plant this morning.
There was a tense five minutes when an ICE supporter arrived and called from the fence line to ICE agents: I support what youre doing, and a lot of people support what youre doing.
Protesters ascended on the man and chased him toward H Street. Greeley police followed as the crowd shouted threats against the man and his family. The man, who identified himself only as Gary, said he thought there would be more people on site to support ICE and was surprised there werent any.
Greeley police officers brought a cruiser to get the man out of the area.
See post 74. This is our protest--one man! But then most legals are working at their jobs.
Unfortunately, you are most likely right.
Good point Matt. There would be many differences in our lives today if John Kerry had been elected president, even more changes if Al Gore were serving his second term.
My birthday is a very special day!
Bunch of thugs. And they wonder why we ae getting so upset with them.
