ICE agents hit 6 Swift plants
Greeley Tribune News ^ | 12/12/2006 | Staff Reports

Posted on 12/12/2006 9:12:29 AM PST by VxH

Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents raided six Swift & Co. plants this morning with civil search warrants, arresting illegal immigrants working at the plants.

Barbara Gonzalez, an ICE public affairs officer, said they don’t have any numbers on how many people will be taken out of any of the plants and probably won’t have that number until Wednesday. She said Swift is not facing any charges right now, but the investigation is continuing.

“At this point, a civil search warrant allows us to search the premises to find any illegal aliens. The strong point here is that a lot of U.S. citizens and U.S. residents have been victimized ... by a large scale identify theft scheme,” Gonzalez said.

Agents entered the beef plant through a west door of the beef plant carrying up to 100 handcuffs on a chain at about 7:30 a.m.

Gonzalez said other plants entered included beef plants in Grand Island, Neb., Cactus, Texas and Hyrum, Utah, and pork plants in Marshalltown, Iowa and Worthington, Minn.

"I am grateful that ICE agents are appropriately targeting illegal aliens whose prior record of criminal behavior may present a risk to the citizens of Colorado," Sen. Wayne Allard.

This is such a lame conditional statement. Why couldn't Allard simply leave it as "illegal aliens" instead of contributing the "criminal" part?

Simple: he is a politician, therefore talks like one.

No, no manaement is involved. These illegal workers were picked up on SS fraud charges. My guess is that ICE will release them and they will continue on doing the same darn thing they were doing before.

No charges against management. these people were picked up on SS fraud, not illegal alien hiring.

Well, looks like this program works REEEL well doesn't it?

What is really stunning, is the number of "conservatives" that believe that the SS administration can effectively keep track of SS numbers and keep accurate records. Think about it. The SS administration and the IRS being scammed by illiterate Mexicans working in a meatpacking plant. And some even advocate granting SS administration and the IRS more power. Brilliant.

They have help from the not-so-illiterate organized crime community.

I believe a thumb-print should be on file to match against the SS number. (DNA would be better but the technology isn't here... yet)

We already fingerprint potential school employees.

The practice should be expanded to include all employees.

Employ an illegal, put a US citizen out of work, is what congress believes.

Much as I hate illegal immigration, 1. your remark doesn't explain our low unemployment rate and 2. we have too many schlubs who are "unemployable."

Deport, build a wall, and THEN a guest worker program.

So which competent federal agency should be in charge of performing all of this fingerprinting and verification? The FBI, or Homeland Security? Surely there will be an online verification that is just as effective as the current failure.

The fingerprinting of school employees is performed by private companies.

The records they access are maintained by the Federal Gov.

Given the current structure, the control of the data would be within the scope of DHS - with supervision by the DHS Privacy Office.

"They are doing same type RAID in Texas Panhandle right now near Dumas Tx. Cactus, TX is right outside there and has a big meat packer plant"

They would be wise to check ID's for the entire town of Cactus. It has become a barrio over the last 20 years like you would see along the border.

ICE apparently did its job after it tipped off Swift & Co. first... The following came from Alipac.

We have just discovered that Immigration and Customs Enforcement tipped off both Swift & Co. meat packing and the illegal aliens before the raids.

Who knows how many illegal aliens and identity thieves escaped!

Please circulate this information far and wide. Please get on the ball to fight the PR war with the media that is trying to make the illegal aliens look like the victims instead of Americans.

Today for the first time I decided to do a search on my name online and I came across this website! I read all the reports on the Greeley Tribune website and found myself horrified and relieved that I almost started to cry! My name was mentioned on this, I am Edna Flores. I found that someone was using my name and my social security number to work because I received a notice form the IRS stating I owed back taxes in 1998 and every time I tried to find this person she would move and move jobs, it has been rather exhausting and up until last year 2006 I still receive letters from the IRS stating that I owed back taxes. No matter how many times and how much I tried to get them to help me all they told me was that all they could do was remove my back taxes, needless to say I was furious all the time but after almost 9 years it is coming to end and all I can do is hope that this story is not repeated and that this is a horrifying experience for anyone to have to be put through, especially when all the government could ever help me with was they "could create a file for me"! I am glad I saw this, I was beginning to give up hope!

Glad to hear you are getting this behind you. FYI, I just happened to be in the courtroom for the arraignment (not out of curiosity for the Swift raids, but for another friend that was in legal trouble), but it made for an interesting afternoon.

My understanding is that one or two of those arrested in the raid for the ID Theft charges have accepted plea bargains, which, in effect, mean they are being deported, but that is all (that and jail time if they cross back over and just happen to get caught again).

I really hope you get your life restored. I've been a victim of ID Theft, but nowhere near as catastrophic as your case, and I know the frustration and large amount of time it takes to clear up on your own behalf...
