I heard part of Medved's interview with Rabbi Bogomilsky today. He just made a bonehead decision by bringing his lawyer along and he now regrets it.

The real villains are the media for misquoting the rabbi and the Sea-Tac officials for overreacting.

In my town, we have a ten foot wide, 6 foot tall Menorah in the center of town at the town park. It stands at one end of the park opposite the town Christmas tree. The lighting ceromony is attended by a great many people of both religions. Never has been a problem for anyone.

Christmas Trees gone at SeaTac

SEATAC, Wash. There will be no more Christmas trees at Sea-Tac Airport this season after the Port of Seattle received at least one complaint about them.

For more than 25 years, the airport has celebrated the holidays with Christmas trees over its entrances. But overnight, the Port of Seattle ordered all 15 trees removed.

The Port allowed "holiday" decorations to remain but decided to take down all the Christmas trees after a Seattle rabbi complained they were offensive... The Port of Seattle says it had little choice. It says the Seattle rabbi with the Central Organization for Jewish Learning hired a lawyer and threatened to sue... (KOMO-TV, KING-TV)

How could he sue over any of this? Christmas is a federal holiday, Hanukkah is not. Christmas trees are said by most to be secular symbols anyway. If they didn't want to put up a menorah so what? Medved says the airport will put the trees back if the rabbi says it's OK. Why do they have to have his permission? What if I'm offended by the menorah? Will they remove it and only return it if I say it's OK? I doubt it. This is PC idiocy.

Dear Rabbi,

As I'm sure you've realized by now, Seattle is under the control of leftist atheists who have much sympathy for the palestinians and hate Jews and Christians equally. It's unfortunate that it took this for you to realize that they would turn your request to their own ends.

Maybe now you understand that the Jewish people have far more to fear in the modern world from the left than from the right.

Did A Lone Rabbi Mean to Ban Christmas Trees?

Who cares what the scumbag meant to do? Fact is, he killed the tradition at Sea Tac Airport.

"the airport offended just about everyone with their removal of the trees."

was this all a mistake or were the words remove the trees or we will sue not uttered?

now it's the airport who (which) is at fault? the authorities mis-understood the threat of a lawsuit if the trees were not removed?

just who the he** are these people and where do they get their ba&&s to be so obnoxious and then have the audacity to deny their intent?

o.k. all you christians...your christianity is offensive and you should all
go away. sarcasm off.

The airport may not be “in the business of offending anyone” but they’ve just offended just about everyone with their stubborn, wrong-headed, and utterly misguided decision.

Wow. It's rare to see Medved so glaringly wrong. The airport only did the obvious thing and took the path of least resistance (and cost). Congratulations to Medved's lawsuit-happy, scumbag rabbi buddy.

What offended the rabbi and should offend all of us is the banning of religious symbols, not their presence.

Yeah right, an up is down and light is dark. He threatened to sue if the airport didn't either take down the trees or put up his symbol. WHAT A BIGOTED ANTI-CHRISTIAN JERK!

Thank you for your post. As you know the Rabbi and I do not I accept your explanation for this entire fiasco.

The Rabbi did make a major mistake in evoking a lawsuit however your explanation of his actions eases the sentiment I held.

As an American Jew I wish the Christmas Trees were back.
Although I do not observe or celebrate Christmas it is a joyous time for all.

I think we would be well off with less Christmas trees and more Christmas spirit. If the removal of some Christmas trees results in so much venom, I'm thinking there wasn't much Christmas spirit in our hearts to begin with.

The only solution; let him have his monorah and put in a Nativity scene for the majority!!

When I asked the rabbi directly whether he would want the trees removed if the airport refused to put up his menorah he insisted, “Absolutely not.” Give me a break. He tried to extort and demanded action with a threat to sue. That says it all and that is what prompted the airport to do without ANY display. This rabbi is not a nice guy, he attempted extortion and he made threats in an attempt to get the airport to do something they had not considered. It wasn't a request, it was a demand. End of story.

Spokespeople for the Port of Seattle say they’re “not in the business of offending anyone,” but when did Rabbi Bogomilsky ever say, or even imply, that he was offended by Christmas trees?

Mr.Medved words mean things. When the good Rabbi's lawyer threatened with a federal law suit all bets are off!
I do understand your desire to soften the impact, but the damage is already done!

Fox Radio news at 1:00 a.m. reporting that the rabbi has dropped the threat of lawsuit, and the trees will be put back. Not sure if it was the rabbi's action, or the deluge of ridicule (and my travel ban) that did the trick.
