There will be no more Christmas trees at Sea-Tac Airport this season after the Port of Seattle received at least one complaint about them. For more than 25 years, the airport has celebrated the holidays with Christmas trees over its entrances. But overnight, the Port of Seattle ordered all 15 trees removed.
"I think it's very unfortunate. Why lose the Christmas spirit? Christmas is for kids," said passenger Lisa Jones. The Port allowed "holiday" decorations to remain but decided to take down all the Christmas trees after a Jewish religious leader complained they were offensive.
"It's a Christmas tree! It's not like they were displaying crucifixes or menorahs or anything religious, but Christmas trees that have been around here for years," said an employee who asked not to be identified.
The Port of Seattle says it had little choice. It says a Seattle rabbi with the Central Organization for Jewish Learning hired an attorney and threatened to sue if the airport did not erect an eight-foot menorah to balance the message of the Christmas trees.
According to airport spokeswoman the two sides could not reach an agreement before the lawsuit was to be filed, so the trees were removed instead. Angry airport employees have started a campaign urging people to call the Port of Seattle to complain. The Christmas trees are now in storage or hidden in unused areas of the airport where they won't be seen.
The airline companies, which lease space in the airport, are not being required to remove decorations from their check-in counters. Rachel Garson with the Port of Seattle said they would revisit the issue of Christmas trees after the holidays are over. "Since this is the busiest time of year we decided to take the decorations down now and consider a new policy after the new year." said Garson.
Lets not forget corporate America and retail merchants everywhere.

And Jews wonder why stereotypes about them are so prevalent.
No, he doesn't. He's posted the most hateful rhetoric against Christians (particularly Catholics) on FR that I have ever seen. He even once implied that Catholics are neo-Nazis. His postings about being a victim are immdeiately disregarded because he is such a poor excuse for a human being.
Even the Lenin statue in Fremont gets decorated!

No, I'm not Jewish at all. Somehow a cult convinced my sister that she is however. My mothers ancestors were English Puritans who came over on the next boat after the mayflower. Both sides of my family left Europe for religious freedom. Its just sad to see the Christmas tree get banned as too offensive or that every religion in the world has to get a symbol up any time we want to celebrate our national holidays. What next a goats head for the Satanists and giant pot leaves for the Rastafarians. Is it too much to say that this Nation was founded by a Christian majority and still to this day has a Christian majority and this being the case has traditionally only celebrated Christian holidays?
(This is about the 4th thread I have apologized on)
FRmail me to be added or removed from this Judaic/pro-Israel/Russian Jewry ping list.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
Gotta find them first. An online search turned up nothing. Phone book too. I'm not sure this group exists.
This wouldn't be the first time the Jews went after Jesus. I doubt it will be the last.
Sea-Tac decided to remove all the Christmas decorations in order to refuse the request to display the menorah.
The rabbi was wrong for bringing in rabid attack dogs lawyers.
Next thing you know, they will be removing all the flags on the Fourth of July!

I realize I'm being a bit abrasive, but this stuff really is starting to get on my nerves.
I believe Sea-Tac wants to defer the issue of what to display for the holidays. They are more concerned right now with moving folks and planes safely through their facility and don't want to be bothered now with deciding what to do.
The article said they wanted to do a review of their holiday decoration policy (they may not even change it, but they want to review it). However they did not want to be forced to do it quickly now. I believe the quote said something like they didn't want to play "cultural anthropoligist for all northwest traditions" right now. They are too busy running an airport. The tree removal was their quickest way to respond to this gadfly.
I think they handled it well. Makes the complainant look like the nutcase he is. Now he is back pedaling saying that he just wanted to add the Hanukkah lights to the festive atmsosphere. He is upset, saying that people will think of his organization as the "grinch".
Ya' think?
