Chinas population is so large and its economy growing so quickly that the Chinese are set to take over second place in the league table of the worlds wealthy people in the next decade.
Research published this week by the World Institute for Development Economics Research of the United Nations University (UNU-Wider) showed that an adult needed to own $61,000 of net assets to be in the richest 10 per cent of the worlds wealth distribution and that in 2000, Chinese people represented less than 1-in-100 of this group.

But such is the pace of development that Professor Anthony Shorrocks of UNU-Wider thinks that China will soon have more people in this group than Japan. The Japanese currently account for a fifth of the worlds top 10 per cent.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
I realized that right after I wrote that, but you get the point.
Being a high up in the Communist Party can be very rewarding. Castro and Kim Jong Il are two of the richest men in the world.

China - our new best friends. And I'm not being sarcastic.
China had plenty of time to try-out Commynism, and since they inheirited Hong Kong, a very short time to try-out Capitaliski.
They may have to build a bridge over to Taiwan, just to get more workers!
What was it, 1999, when they got Hong Kong? Like a duck to water. Amazing..................FRegards
But the difference is that top leaders of China consist of
technocrates these days, they've got good education and
some quality as leaders. Not like Castro or Kim Jungil who
succeeded the throne from father, what a nonsense, in my point as a Korean.

TANKS for the ping,,How do you say "WalMart"...;0)
Good. Now when the whiners spew that the rich countries aren't doing enough, they better include China as one.
They also have hundreds of millions more people who are still poor, and massive financial and state-owned enterprise sectors that are as rickety as hell.
This isn't to discount the amazing progress they've made, but, as Han Solo might have said: "Nice growth kid, don't get too cocky."
Funny how so many of them are from the '50 families' and who are Party members and integral in the Chinese government.
Some Pigs ARE more equal than others......
I get damned sick and tired of the consistent (and ignorant) Wal-Mart bashing on every thread that happens to mention Red China.
Wal-Mart is no different in its product mix than every other major retailer. They ALL sell Chinese products.
Give it a rest. It's NOT funny.
China = Walmart- hahahahahahahahahahahahahah- j/k
