WASHINGTON -- Zalmay Khalilzad, who was announced this week as leaving as U.S. ambassador to Iraq, is the leading prospect to replace John Bolton as envoy to the United Nations.
President Bush was reported by aides as looking for someone who approximates Bolton's combination of toughness and diplomatic skill and has tentatively decided on Khalilzad. A native of Afghanistan, he has served in government posts dating back to 1985 and is the highest-ranking Muslim in the Bush administration.
Speculation on a new U.S. ambassador to the United Nations to succeed John Bolton is focusing on the current U.S. ambassador in Iraq, Khalilzad, and a former U.S. deputy ambassador at the U.N., Richard Williamson. A footnote: State Department sources have said Andrew Card, who on April 14 finished five years as White House chief of staff, was interested in the UN post and was a dark horse to get it. However, he never made any such desire known to the president and is not being considered for the UN.

This seems to be the ethnic composition of Afghanistan, with Arabs perhaps being part of the "others."
Pashtun 42%, Tajik 27%, Hazara 9%, Uzbek 9%, Aimaks 4%, Turkmen 3%, Baloch 2%, others 4%

Interestingly, the Encyclopedia Britanica has the following information:
"The origins of the Pashtun are unclear. Pashtun tradition asserts that they are descended from Afghana, grandson of King Saul of Israel, though most scholars believe it more likely that they arose from an intermingling of ancient Aryans from the north or west with subsequent invaders. Several Pashtun tribes are known to have moved from Afghanistan to Pakistan between the 13th and 16th century."
Note their tradition of being descended from King Saul!
Yes, they are all along the Silk Road. Strictly speaking, they're along all the ancient trade routes and converted the indigenous populations to Mohammadism. Islam came later.
I never said he wasn't. However, his post was childish and I chose not to respond to him because I don't want to get into a pissing contest. If you will reread my posts, all I was responding to a comment about another post that chided the poster for proposing we, others, whoever, ask questions.
As far as I could see from his original post, questioning didn't seem unreasonable and I provided just one case. And then you proclaimed I had the logic skills of a two-year old. I merely, on a tit-for-tat insult trade, insulted your grammar skills even knowing you were just trying to get out fast what your mind wanted to say and your fingers skipped over a couple of steps.
I didn't berate your education, I have a similar one and have for 26 years, and I have been employed in highly classified positions throughout those years and I have been constantly subjected to questions of my loyalty. My point is that which I've already stated thereupon.
--- I hope if chosen and confirmed that he'll be as fair to Israel as Bolton was.---
You've put your finger right on it. I fear that this is all part of a movement away from Israel. The Baker report, Gates, and now this. I predict there will be an increasing amount of anti-Israel rhetoric in the next months.
Perhaps for those too ignorant to know better. But Khalilzad is OUR ambassador to Iraq, which certainly gets A LOT of post time on Free Republic. He has done a good job for our troops afield, our country's interest, and President Bush. I would be surprised if the majority of FReepers haven't heard of him, at least in reference to Iraq.
It's about the same as your's, I hope....
Me too, although I've never been in the loop on any Black projects.
And his third is to announce that the UN must move to the Hague and that the USA will no longer fund it if serious reforms against corruption, prejudice and anti-semitism occur. His fourth speech is to ask all Western, free enterprise , even semi-democratic nations to follow the USA out to form a new world Freedom First organization.

Can't say whether I have or haven't. But I suspect a high percentage of "black" projects are black because it's easier to hide the appropriation from Congress....financing is a tedious thing.....
If you read the post again slowly, and I mean very slowly, and read what the person wrote who I posted to, then I will accept your apology for being so rude.
< Mongo>Aw, Avacado straight< /Mongo>
Yeah. And congress critters have the bigest mouffs...
"Veritas" isn't spelled with a silent "j" at the beginning.
Electrical engineer, we use j for i...
That's real deep man. You're a heavy cat.
With fingers crossed perhaps.
Israel couldn't care less what the world thinks. They will protect themselves or perish.
Any anti-Israeli rhetoric will be strictly for positioning.
