Durbin questions Bush on comparison to Truman
By Christi Parsons

WASHINGTON - Senior lawmakers met with President Bush on the brink of their holiday break Friday, but what broke out between the president and Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., was far more than polite chitchat.
After Bush brought up the memory of President Harry Truman during a discussion of Iraq, Durbin objected, leading to a disagreement that both sides were later eager to expound upon.
"He drew an interesting parallel," Durbin recounted after the meeting. "He said Harry Truman, with the Truman Doctrine, came up with the right doctrine, the right approach, to fight communism. It wasn't popular. He left office not as popular as he once was, but history showed he was right."
After the meeting, Durbin suggested that a more apt Bush comparison might be to President Lyndon Johnson, who left office as the American toll in the Vietnam War soared.

What a surprise that nothing is mentioned by the mainstream media about what Senator Durbin had to say about "Club Gitmo"!
To: Omega Man II
Hey Durbin maybe you haven't noticed yet but history has proven Lyndon Johnson right on Vietnam. It was all the worthless social programs that LBJ instituted that have been proven to be utter disasters!

Durbin one again demonstrates he is a no class punk. What is it about these Dem Senators? How can the people of this country be so stupid as to keep electing such incompetence to the US Senate?

There are more murders committed by illegal aliens in our country every day than soldiers in Iraq.

Must be out of context... just is not logical unless Durbin is forecasting that the American losses in Iraq are about to soar. If that is what he is saying he is speculating for the sake of trying to make a headline. Losses in Iraq are going down now that the election is over... Cold weather is also playing a role. The criminal nature of the "insurgency" makes up the majority of the participants. They have to import many of their suicide bombers and they are getting less and less effective. IEDs continue to be a problem but they will not stop the fielding of Iraqi police and Army units that are just beginning to be felt among the Suni insurgents. A strong anti-insurgent movement appears to be building among the Sunnis also. US casualties are going to go down not up so Durbin is just jaw jacking...

Is Durbin a nevillechamberlain whiner and appeaser who, in the end, will get far more innocents killed than the Churchills and Trumans.

Illegal aliens murder more than 140,000 people every day?
To: saneright
If I remember right, LBJ sat in his "office" with his bottle of JD and a dart board, determining just where we would bomb the enemy today.

Okay, but what does that have to do with anything?
To: Omega Man II
Truman was "in on the creation of the United Nations, where we could sit down even with the Soviet Union and have a conversation about finding solutions to our problemsHey Durbin, the UN has never been anything but diplomatic cover for the war of totalitarianism against democracy. It used to be communism alone, now it's communism and islamic jihadism against democracy, all under diplomatic immunity.

Soring U.S. causalities, is what Durbin and the Dems are hoping for, thinking that it will destroy the President. Instead, it will destroy our country.
