Hillary may have the buzz, but Rudy has the better poll numbers - at least for now. A new WNBC/Marist College survey yesterday found that while Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) is the most popular presidential option among Democrats, a whopping 47% of all voters say they would "definitely not" vote for the former First Lady if she runs for President in 2008. By contrast, a full two-thirds of voters say they remain open to voting for former Mayor Rudy Giuliani - who would best Clinton, 49% to 43%, if the 2008 race were held today. The numbers suggest that the Republican Giuliani - whose pre-9/11 record remains a blank to most voters - has room to grow, while Clinton begins with nearly half the electorate aligned against her, experts said.
"The bottom line is that there is very little room for error in a Hillary-for-President campaign," says Marist College pollster Lee Miringoff. Not that Giuliani is without challenges. The poll found that while Giuliani remains the top pick among GOP voters, a full 47% of those voters - when told that Giuliani is pro-choice, pro-gun control and pro-gay rights - say such issues could be a "major factor" in their eventual decision. Aides to Giuliani declined to comment on the numbers, but Clinton pollster Mark Penn argued that Clinton has consistently proven she can expand her base of supporters. "When she started in New York, many people said they'd never vote for her - and she just won reelection with 67% of the electorate," said Penn.

A Southerner can't win? Please tell that to George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, okay?
However, never fear, it may get worse, I see that Bloomberg is looking to self-finance a third party for 2008. You may not believe in history repeating itself, but it is shaping up to look like 1991 all over again.
Its more absurd to attack people for pointing out that he is not an arch conservative.
We need a person who will appeal to the base and to many indepenents, no matter where he or she is from.
Everyone on this thread knows you don't like him....you've sat there for 30 hours getting your point across. Some how I think Rudy will manage to campaign without your support.
It's starting to look like 1991 all over again, yet another liberal GOP Billionaire is saying he is going to self-finance a third party... so I guess Hydro and the others can vote for Bloomberg instead and throw the election to Hillary. I know Perot was good friends with BC and have suspected for a long time that was a set up, now it looks like Bloomberg is going to pay the same favor as Perot did to the Clinton's.
Fine, suport your rino. But don't come crying to me when he loses. He will and quite posibly drag the party down with him.
Maybe as VP.
Why not?
A southerner can win for the Democrats--that's my point. And after George W. Bush, who has had the same effect on Republicans in the northeast that Clinton had on Democrats in the South, the possibility has been foreclosed in the future.
I have looked at the facts on Rino Rudy. I looked at his past and fined him to be a liberal and therefore not gettting my support. I do not vote for liberals not matter their party.
The south, like New England, has grown atypical for the country as a whole. We now see a coalition of the rest of the country willing to vote against a candidate who is too southern, just as they vote against a Democrat who is too northeastern.
Thus you are a registered independent and have no party. I am a Republican and when it comes down to the mat, I support my party even if I did have to hold my nose (which I would have to do to vote for John McCain).
In TX you do not register a party. But as I ahve stated before I am a conservative independent. I have been so for several years.
I don't see where you are coming from at all. The South has produced winning candidates forever! It is really hard for us to trust Northerners.
When I analyze what they say to me over dinner conversations it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize we have to moderate our stance and let the constitution and our locally elected representatives take the lead on Abortion and Gun Rights. It is a States' Issue anyway you look at it.
What we need is a President who will fight a strong WOT, protect our borders and nominate strict constitutionalists' to the bench at the SCOTUS as well as the 9th Circuit.
Rudy has said time and again the judges Bush got onto the SCOTUS are exactly the candidates he would have picked. Hillary certainly wouldn't pick those judges. In fact, didn't she vote against them?
If we get good judges then a lot of other issues fall into line.
Are you saying you would turn total control of the WOT and the economy over to the Democrats because of this one issue?
I have 2 issues that if you cross me on you will not get my vote. Pro Gun and anti abortion (I am a devote Catholic). I will not vote for Rino Rudy because of his stance on these issues.
Pro gun is Catholic doctrine?
