Today, President Bush met with Costa Rican President Oscar Arias Sanchez at the White House.

And Vice President Dick Cheney met with Republican leaders on Capitol Hill.

That’s about it.

Enjoy your visit to--

Oh wait. Almost forgot …

A group of self-centered, short-sighted fools led by James Baker and Lee Hamilton released their report on how we can surrender to our enemies.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island

When I was younger satsumas and nuts were always put in stockings and they used to only be available at that time of the year or more accurately the nice ones but now you can get good quality all year.

Though I do think that walnuts in particular were better then. Now in England they are often 1 - 2 year old California ones but I did manage to get some wet English ones the other day - shame because they are wet they will not keep for Christmas but that gives a good excuse to eat them now. In fact I am eating one as I post.

To me nuts, raisins and satsumas are all part of Christmas along with chocolate money and chocolate on the tree.

Of course going back to my grandmother and great grandmother a lot of children all they got for Christmas was some fruit and if lucky nuts in a stocking.

Is that true? Stunned silence?

Yep. It took several seconds for Baker and Hamilton to think of a way to answer that question :)

To: silent_jonny; All

I just got home from a very successful, but tiring college fair [This after getting up VERY early this morning so that I could take my son to his various doctors' appointments . . . BTW: Michael is doing GREAT!!]

Bottomline: I'm ready for bed, but wanted to stop by both to say 'Hi' (before saying goodnight!) and to encourage everyone to call or e-mail the President tomorrow with much needed (and appreciated) words of support!

Additionally, I recommend that you visit the Presidential Prayer Team website -- it's quite inspirational (and VERY supportive of our President)!!

Night all!

Of course going back to my grandmother and great grandmother a lot of children all they got for Christmas was some fruit and if lucky nuts in a stocking.

That's true here too. My grandmother was born in 1910 and had a very hard childhood. It seemed like she and her friends who were the same age thought that fruit and nuts and hard candy were very special treats because they were scarce during the Depression and WWII.

Re: Christmas fruit in stockings. My dad, born in 1908, told me that when he was growing up, that he only got oranges at Christmas time and they were considered to be very special.

We have chocolates in the shape of baubles and bells and parcels etc it is a very old tradition in Britain they come alreay with string on them to tie to the branches.

In this photo in front are Cadbury's chocolate parcels - the others are more like traditional tree decorations but in chocolate - they are not Cadbury's just a local stores own make. Cadbury's also do one in the shape of a bell with caramel in the it - I love those may get some at the weekend.
