Just heard on CNN Headline News he was found. Rescue personal saw flashing object and found him. No word of his condition.
I don't know, and I didn't mean to suggest that he had. My comment was more general - that the family can be sure his final thoughts were of them.
I think I did scan past somebody saying he had written something in the snow.
I could be wrong.
But I'm sure they know he was there for them.
Running water, in any amount in my part of NM is a reason to stop and look. After my Western PA days I thought I'd never want rain again, but after a decade of constant readiness for the big fire to come, a couple days of rain makes me want to just run around in it like a kid.
Rule # 1. When lost in a snow storm stay PUT. Poor guy and his family. I hope his death is an example to a lot of people since it has gotten so much TV time.
May he rest in peace. Prayers for his family.
It is time to mourn his death and to be aware of the sorrow of his family in facing life w/out him. Anything else is out of line IMO. There is a desperate need for Kindness here, not criticism,
Praise for the searchers should be noted. (How many of us spent days and days in that cold helping?)
I wish I hadn't read this thread. The small-minded, sanctimonious posts have left me feeling sick. I see these types of posts when I come here much too often, but to criticize a man who died desperately trying to save his family is beyond the pale. Evil.
Fine, here's your chance to clarify. Here's what your post says:
That seems a little paranoid (for this thread), but that could simply be naivete.
So you call my theory paranoid, even though I've seen it employed on this site by all sides and allegiances over the course of 6 years, while you must have not seen it ever in your 7 months here. Excuse me while I laugh at your analysis.
Well said. Let's fight some other time, shall we all?
If you keep this up I'm gonna have to buy you a Christmas present.
Where do all these "holier than thou" people come from?"
From the bewildered, ignorant, self-interested, foolish bowels of the human experience. Some folks would do better if they spent their days contemplating the true meaning of a frogs fart.......or perhaps playing old Beatles records backwards.
So, with that said. This good man made a few mistakes that had to do with things not in his plan and not in his life experience, but he did far better than many have done, or will do, and he did it for his Bride and children......... he gave his all.
Giving your all for the life of others, is all that any man can do....it is not possible to do more. Even though things didn't turn out the way he would have wanted, he died trying to save his family.
Folks can dissect this tragedy all they want, but they do not have all the facts, they do not have the training/experience and most importantly.....THEY WERE NOT THERE!
Yes. If you eat snow for hydration, you run the risk of dangerously lowering hour body's core temperature and freezing to death. Some folks will put snow in a plastic bottle, if they have one, and put it near their body to melt it, then they can drink the water.
Possibly a flashing pocket size emergency strobe light.
I thought we agreed to hate each other in only odd years, no?
What in God's name does that mean?
Don't go on the Mary Cheney's having a baby thread, then.
:-)
Just remember most of the ugly people have miserable real lives and come here to work out their personal issues. :-)
We did? Hey, when you go to Destin, head over to Panama City (30 minute drive) and eat at Captain Anderson's. One of the best seafood restaurants in America.
You are extracting the same amount of heat from the body (latent heat) no matter whether you melt it from the outside or inside.
Bump.
