May they find comfort in the knowledge that Mr. Kim's final wish was granted--that his family be safe.

I think you've phrased this the best I've seen.

Small, uncharitable and witless!

Hopefully someone will give you a clue, because it is obvious you haven't one.

Yes very sad.......I'm sure he was a wonderful father and husband.

His family will always know that he was a hero to them.....trying to save them to the bitter end. God rest his soul.

Where do all these "holier than thou" people come from?

Howlin..... I just don't know. The last vision his wife had of him was a desparate man heading into the unknown in an effort to save her and their children. I honestly pray that no one on this forum is ever confronted with such decisions. Some people are so simple, so jaded. So sad.

I have had advanced survival training in depth both civilly as well as militarily.

Believe me, no matter how much rain or precip. there is, there are many ways to find kindling or start a fire that do not require large ignition sources. Especially where there are Pine or Spruce trees available. Simply look up inside the trunk of the tree, there is ample dry bark, pitch and dry needles to start any fire easily. Even with using primitive ignition methods.

On days like today, I just try to look away; we have people trashing this man, people trashing Mary Cheney, and a bunch of old coots handing this country over to the terrorists to get some face time.

Where do all these "holier than thou" people come from?

You know what? I was just telling my son today that the people on FR are not the same as they were when we started years ago.
There are some real kooks here now. Sad.

How churdish to sit in judgement of a man who died while merely trying to survive.

Who cares what you think anyway?

I'm sure he would have been very pleased if you had gotten out there to save him - but no, you did not. Why didn't you go find him?

Seems far worse that you did not even try to go save him than the fact that he died because he could not find help before his body died.

"Are urban people that naive and not able to understand such basic survival skills?"

Many of us reading this thread would never endanger our families like this guy did, we carry cold weather supplies when we pass through the mountains, and in most cases we carry some all year.

My bet is that every one of us that has brought up preparation in social circles, has been mocked as some of the group called them nutty and paranoid.

It sounds like this stranger died like a man, but why o why did he almost kill his family by ignoring basic preparations.

I was hoping and praying for Mr. Kim to be found alive; this is a heartbreaking outcome for his family and friends. I am thankful that his wife and two daughters were found alive. The conditions under which they survived, are more than most of us can probably imagine.

Well, you now have your plan of action ready. Leave other people to their own decisions and quit trying to appear far smarter than this man.

Survival is a very personal decision and I doubt that he sat and pondered what you would have done.
