Live on cable now...
I saw Sandra Day O'Connor on Hairball, and she said that they were SO proud of the fact that they were able to come up with 79 unanimous recommendations...
then she said, (this is verbatim).."it has been a remarkable PERFORMANCE"...
SO..that is how she characterizes it a "performance".
Also..Evan Thomas came on and was very nasty about Pres. Bush and Cheney...he said that this group had to pull Pres. Bush in off of a tree....and that Dick Cheney is so dark, that to hear that he actually smiled once is remarkable.
THEN, Dan Bartlett was on ...and first think he said was that Evan Thomas' type rhetoric re: Pres. Bush needing pulled in off of a tree is exactly why there has been such a problem getting a unified message out of the USA...
Sealing the borders and taking fewer IED casualties would have to be acceptable to the dems; they might protest but they would not stop it. Note the 'lower casualties' part - it goes with 'fewer troops on the ground'.
We've handed 'palestine / Israel' over to the bad guys as their license to lie, cheat, and steal. I do not believe that the average Iraqi gives a damn about a bunch of jordinians stranded between Israel and islamic utopia - and stranded by their own leadership. It's a scam in the same manner as every inner city riot and drive-by is scammed onto [white] 'racism'. Ain't the cause, its the alibi.
And it will or would not be a short struggle.
Given your screen name I'm saddened that you are willing to write off the Kurds; I don't want that happening again.
Aren't most of the 79 recommendations already being done (except talking to Syria and Iran).
The report was about two things. 1) Bush gets the Democrats to agree with just about all he is already doing. 2) The Democrats get credit for so-called (LOL)-- "change".
If you listen to anyone on MSNBC, you would think that Pres. Bush had gone crazy and is fighting off all advice with a chair...
" However, it's mission was to find out a way to WIN in Iraq, using "fresh eyes" "
Fresh eyes ??
Cataracts and myopia are more like it.
LOL...I think they would have done better if they were blindfolded...they might have had to really "listen" to what the Iraqis, the military in Iraq, and those nutjobs in Iran and Syria have really been saying...pfffffft
Right you are!
We have come full circle from the lessons lerned so hard in Vietnam. I thought we learned that when the military acts to carry out US policy, the commanders in the field should run the show on the ground.
Now I learn that Justice O'Connor, confined to a room in DC for the past 25 years finding out how many angels can dance on the head of a pin, is better qualified to run foreign policy and the attendant military action in Iraq. And presumably elsewhere as well.
Today is one of those days where I just shake my head and await the inevitable consequences of appeasing nutjobs, abandoning Israel to realpolitik and a republican so bereft of testosterone that they have hair growing on their eyeballs.
I agree completely. But the "Arab Street" still uses it, and I doubt that our intention to separate it from the WOT would really fly with them.
Given your screen name I'm saddened that you are willing to write off the Kurds; I don't want that happening again.
God knows I don't either. I am just saying that partitioning may happen whether we want it or not. Right now the Kurdish portion is the most peaceful part of the entire country. Maybe we should supply and arm them, if we could do ti without prompting a Turk invasion.
(I am white, BTW, I chose the name once because I wanted to be anonymous)
Man, all I know about LKL is that he's on CNN. I'll have to go looking. Let him have it with both barrels! Go amm!!
In that case we are truly doomed:
"The West" cannot abandon its imperfect orphan state in the mid east, period.
Beyond that I have a hard time expressing it:
Israel is imperfect, Zionism was and is an earlier expression of fanaticism.
Genocide is wrong.
Abandoning your [admittedly imperfect] allies is wrong.
Allowing the other side to define the debate was wrong - and stupid.
It now seems to be a Republican talent.
Iraqi Kurds are highly skilled and highly admirable; 21st century parallel to the hill people of Vietnam, I do not look forward to another abandonment.
Is it possible to separate palestine / Israel / islamist rationalization?
At some level it had better be, because to date it has been their be-all & end-all excuse for bad faith, for lies and deceptions, and for milking the international community for sixty years. When they stop being rewarded for it, they just might look for another nose to push under the tent.
As to your screen name; I'm anonymous as well but 'norton' has meaning to me and I expect or hope 'Nguyen' had some meaning to you as well.
Don't forget, Vernon Jordan took time off from making NAIL POLISH to put in his two cents worth.
IMO, the fix is in; the "insider the beltliners" took control of D.C. today.
Is there *any* news outlet calling this thing what it is? I need some take on this that is sane.
(just got home from work, catching up on news)
Mo I just got in from work and missed the Hewitt show today.
Well said my friend..
He ran Revlon.
Is it just me or is James Baker a publicity hog, you can tell he loves the camera
are you watching James Baker on CNN - bad mouthing some quotes of Charles Krauthammer being used by Anderson Cooper?
unreal.
Just returned from Borders where nice little stacks of Iraq Study Group booklets are available for $10.95 each.
Apparently, it's going like hotcakes everywhere:

Wonder where the proceeds go?
I turned if off....I couldnt take it anymore.
