SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- A city ordinance in Sioux City, Iowa, says all pets must be on a leash -- but it doesn't say who has to be carrying the leash.
One Iowa dog, Jack, has been walking himself since he was a puppy.
The 11-year-old Labrador retriever holds his own leash in his mouth as he walks with his owner, Brad Ralph.
"So far, we haven't been cited," Ralph said. "I don't know how that would hold up in court, but he is technically on a leash."
Jack and Brad walk about three miles each day.
"I don't really do it to get attention you know," said Jack's owner, Brad Ralph. "It's just handy and he's a little bit of a show off and likes to prance around with his leash in his mouth."
Jack takes his responsibility very seriously. He doesn't like it when someone tries to take his leash away from him.
Thanks for the words of wisdom...people need to get real...
CHORTLE!! Good one!!
A similar legal theory allowed mortor cyclists to strap a helmet on their back. they were wearing the helmet, but not on their head.
Yeah, that's real cute.
Now, either abide by the ordinance, get it changed, or get out of town. Don't be one of those "laws are for other people" idiots.
hmmm, perhaps a leash for the wife every time she walks by a shoe store!
LOL!
You obviously have not had a German Shepherd.
I like that! :D
bravo.
my black lab, always has to have a ball or stick in her mouth after playtime at the field.
Labs are such cool dogs, and how clever of this owner to take advantage of the dog's natural instinct to retrieve and carry.
We have a full blooded black lab (female, almost 5 y.o.) and a chocolate lab mix (male 6 y.o.). The female sheds like crazy! The male, not so much. That's still 185 pounds of dog to clean up after :P
I am SO thankful for my Dyson vacuum!
My "Heinz 57" loves his ball and he also loves his beer! The neighbors nick-named him "Booze Hound"! :-)
Dogs are usually smarter than politians.
We had three plus a dog we would put on a leash when we traveled. The dog did fine, one of the cats did as well as the dog, (he would do anything to please us), one would fight it constantly, (he always rebelled against everything unless something was after him) and the other we just drug him behind the rest of the crowd.

I've had just German Shepherds. I also have a ShopVac. Nothing beats those.
I would like contact information and advice on owning Czech Shepards from their Border Patrol division.
Ive always wanted a female shepard, but saw a completely, midnight black shepard with brown paws....probably the best looking dog I have ever seen. Good bark, and very loyal to her owner.
Thanks in advance!
