Wife and two daughters of senior editor James Kim found in Oregon; search is still on for James Kim, who left the car on foot two days ago.
The wife and daughters of missing CNET senior editor James Kim have been found alive and airlifted to a local hospital, authorities announced at a press conference in Merlin, Ore., Monday afternoon.
James Kim left the car on snowshoes two days ago to seek help and has not been found, the official said. The search for him continues.
According to the official speaking at the news conference, the conditions of Kati, Penelope and Sabine are not yet known. More details are expected at a press conference at 5 p.m. PST, which CNET will stream live.
Kati Kim reportedly flagged down a helicopter rented by families of the missing persons.
After searches in Oregon's Curry and Douglas counties, new information on missing CNET senior editor James Kim and his family narrowed the search back to the Bear Camp area in Josephine County, according to reports Monday.
A cell phone tower received a signal from one of the family's cell phones at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday near Glendale, but officials say the signal is only an indicator the family could have been within 26 miles of Glendale at that time, according to a report in The Oregonian.
Thanks! Maybe Santa will....
Sorry, raygun... the whole thing just doesn't cut it with me, but remember, I am old, jaded, and fed up a tad.
If he had the forethought to bring the snowshoes, why didn't he have proper food, temporary heating devices, flares, down bags, etc... and why the heck was he on such a dangerous road, with a 7 month old infant and a 4 year old?
Unless he was a guy looking for a good "story'?
That said, I do hope they find him alive and well, for these two little girls deserve a good daddy to walk them down the aisle, and the mother doesn't need the burden of raising them alone.
I am just hoping it wasn't a clever plan gone horribly wrong! And in our media-centered culture, with bottomless Brittany, etc.... it is important to be a bit sceptical, don't you think?
holy cow, I had lost all hope! Amazing!
Oops, I missed that Jim wasn't found, but I'm glad for the others. What a stressful story.
We can't all be as perfect as you.
Sorry. :-) That was the punchline of one of my favorite Far Side cartoons. A castaway has signaled for help using coconuts or logs or something, and instead of spelling HELP, he spelled HELF. The rescue pilots see it, say something like, "Oh, I thought he needed help, but I guess not. Let's go back." (but more cleverly that that)
See, spelling counts! {grin}
(Halp us, Jon Carry!)
Far from perfect, publana, just old and cranky!
Oops, that comment was meant for somebody else. I'm too fed up with some of the comments on this thread to read through them again to scroll back to find him.
The appropriate comment for you is that while I agree there are those such as you describe, I don't believe this to be the case for these people.
"Old and cranky"
LOL Me too. Add forgetful as well. Sorry about replying to the wrong post.
Tonight, on Greta, it was reported that hubby had on jeans and tennis shoes....nothing about snowshoes. They were still tracking him...but he left the road for some reason.
"Everyone on this thread lives more adventurously than I..."
Me too, my adventures have been like yours, more urban.
I'm glad they found these folks, I hope the dad is OK too.
Right along the Rogue River, isn't it?
Gonna do just that, woodbutcher. Folks love a "heartwarming" story, and it just isn't nice to pour the cold water of suspicion on it, right?
I still hope that the father of these two little ones is found, for they need him, and so does his wife. But they are either dumb or opportunistic. Whatever, it doesn't matter at this point. I truly hope the family is intact, but just can't get caught up in the "drama" of it all.
People are either short-sighted (dumb), or hoping to write a book. Which is it in this case? I have no idea, just hope they have learned a good lesson from this mess.
First of all: "depracating" in this 44 year old boy's eye is not an endearing feature of what I perceive as being beautiful with respect to older women.
Girls go through many different stages (akin to a chrysalis), and one of the last is that of beauty/magnificence.
Do you know for a fact that he did NOT bring those items that you suggest that he did not bring?
I concur with your last sentiments, except that I hope that it wasn't a "plan gone awry" at all. I believe that you are just a jaded and cynical product of modern society; I don't hold that against you (I just plain pray that you're wrong).
;)
Let us just keep the "family" in our prayers (especially for recovery of all its members), because even if your worst fears manifest themselves, then our prayers will be even more important. Remember: Jesus saves!
tennis shoes? Tennis shoes in the snow is not good. If his tennis shoes are anything like mine, his feet were frost-bitten the first hour. :/
I'm praying he found shelter to get warm and realized he couldn't get back to the car. My heart goes out to his wife who must be in anguish about now.
This is either a new development, or another example of MSM not knowing what the F#(*k they're talking 'bout.
From the original article:
"James Kim left the car on snowshoes two days ago to seek help and has not been found, the official said. The search for him continues"
I've heard this mentioned a few times in the preceding postings that hubby "left the road". I wasn't exactly clear what that reference pertained to.

You can wear 'em with a light-weight shoe that is a cross between a hiking boot and a running shoe.
Think Nike stuff...
I'm sure he wasn't in "tennis shoes."
