Constitution Party aims to thwart Hillary, GOP

As Hillary Clinton begins her own preparations to run for the presidency, the deciding factor of who will be the next commander in chief may have less to do with whomever is chosen as the Democrat or Republican nominee, and more to do with the choice of the Constitution Party.

This weekend at a national committee meeting in Manchester, N.H., Howard Phillips and the Constitution Party he founded set in motion the plans to launch its own third party candidate for president.

"The time has never been better for a third party dark horse candidate to grab the White House," Phillips told WND.

He affirmed that by next July, his party intends to nominate a presidential candidate, with possibilities for the ticket including Minuteman Project co-founder Jim Gilchrist, former Republican presidential candidate Alan Keyes, Baptist pastor Chuck Baldwin, and author and WND columnist Jerome Corsi.

The Constitution Party is also strongly supportive of Republican Congressmen Tom Tancredo and Ron Paul, but there is no decision yet that either would leave their home in the Republican Party to pursue a Constitution Party nomination. Tancredo has said numerous times he is considering a run for the presidency.

"The American public are angry at both the Democratic and Republican Party," Phillips said. "If neither major party wants to listen to the American middle class, the Constitution Party is ready to enter center stage and get back to the basics that have made the republic established by our founding fathers work for over 230 years."

The meeting was highlighted by a lineup of well-known conservative speakers, including those who may end up running.

Im no defeatist, but I believe the gang of 14 is what set the party reeling. Look at it this way, if Hillary was president, there would be no rogues, Dem congressfolks would tow the line on all policies made by the clinton white house. Oh, there would be a few detractors, but it would be for show. The "R"s went off the reservation so many times it was embarrasing. Not being able to control the Party cost the GOP dearly..

Gilchrist, Keyes and Corsi are better than McCain, Giuliani and Hagel. In my personal opinion, of course.

Ross Perot was able to bankroll his own campaign. The previous non-liberal third party Presidential candidate that had a significant electoral impact, George Wallace, had the benefit of harsh public reaction against race riots, rapidly increasing crime, and the burgeoning hippie movement. The Constitution Party lacks either the deep pockets of Ross Perot or mass public outrage on social issues (though the latter could change if President Bush and the Democrats allow for amnesty for illegal aliens). However, unless the GOP nominates a conservative for President or someone like McCain or Giuliani has to make big time and public promises on curbing abortion, opposition to the homosexual agenda, gun ownership rights, immigration control, selection of conservative justices, etc., to hold the conservative base, the Constitution Party could serve as a spoiler, or for that matter the Libertarian Party.

So basically, you'll vote for ANY republican, just "to stop Hillary." That's probably what the country clubbers in the party are wanting you to do.

Stop using your napkin as a diaper.

The only way McCain wins is if conservatives decide to not vote in the Republican primaries and support some party that does not have a chance to win.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner! Move to the head of the class, friend!

Considering its size and demographics, the Constitutionists are in more of a position to thwart the Republicans than the Democrats, though their impact on both could be small.

I don't know; they pulled in an impressive 0.1% of the popular vote in 2004.

well, as I said: it wouldn't take much of a spoiler.

2008 is HIllary's to lose. if she picks obama as a rumming mate (if I was her, I would) she'd be dern near unbeatable.

Oh shut up with that crap. Just shut up.

Here it is in a nutshell: we'll vote for ANY Republican to stop the Democrats from destroying this country.

Now shut up. We already know you're in favor of the Democrats to protect your purist principles!

" the Constitutionists are in more of a position to thwart the Republicans than the Democrats"

As usual, this is true in practical terms. I think maybe the best way any constitutionalist conservative could help push politics in the right direction would be to start up a fringe-left party to suck the moonbat vote away from the Dims.

Don't mistake me - I think the Constitution party's principles are on target. I'd gladly vote for their candidate in a race where they have a shot. I'm just a bit tired of a "stand on principles" always translating into "and so the people diametrically opposed to everything we stand for are now in power."

(IOW, No More Perot Effects!)

The CP needs to focus on state house races and lower. If they did that for the next 30 years, then, we could actually see the rise of a conservative party. But to run for Prez now is simply foolhardly. Nothing that is foolhardy can be considered conservative.

"or someone like McCain or Giuliani has to make big time and public promises on curbing abortion"

This is a good point; a 3rd party's best (beneficial) effect is helping to shape the mainstream party's and candidate's platform during the primaries. At General Election time, though, they can have the opposite effect from the one they intend.

If the decision is between a bad Republican and a terrible Dem, I'll choose the bad Republican every time. My point, though, is that it doesn't have to be a bad Republican. If people would actually vote in the primaries, they wouldn't have as much to complain about in the general election.

Oh, and BTW, there is absolutely no way I'd give my vote to any North American Union conspiracy loon.

the problem is that the republicans are looking more and more like democrats. and they have been weak for too long. without a strong candidate, they have their work cut out for them.

like going after a 32 gun frigate with a 12 gun sloop.
