Congress Open to Passing Bill on Immigration (Citizenship for 20 million illegals!)

Congress will approve an immigration bill that will grant citizenship rights to most of the 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S. after Democrats take control next month, predict both sides on Capitol Hill. While Republicans have been largely splintered on the issue of immigration reform, Democrats have been fairly unified behind the principle that the illegals currently in the country should get citizenship rights without having to first leave the country.

When applying for a job (already done, although not thoroughly enough). When applying for a lease or business license. When applying to use government services. And when pulled over by the cops for other probable cause.

Hardly non-conservative positions, unless, Howlin, you're turning Libertarian on us, which I highly doubt, unless you are engaging in situational Libertarianism.

Well thought out. But there is another statement that is equally true: If you are faced with a lose-lose situation, you cannot possibly win.

If I am to stabbed in theback, I would feel only slightly better if it were my enemy rather than my "friend" who was ding the statement.

When you guys are done compromising with an enemy, who will not give one inch of their own position, let the rest of us know, please. What did we learn from bargaining with the Soviets. I've never had to show my passport OR my birth certificate to do any of that. Why are you lying about that?

Of course, I thought "real, true" conservatives were against the government butting into people's business and people's bedrooms, but, as we've seen over the past few years, as long as it's THEIR views and beliefs, some people on here are F I N E with using the government to implement them

Are we even removing five percent of those who are flooding in? If we are dealing in hard numbers, we must include how many we are not deporting. I would be willing to wager that Ike was removing a lot higher percentage than we are presently.

So then you would be in favor of eliminating federal laws requiring ID to show that you are a citizen or legal resident when you get a job?

Nothing like situational Libertarianism. Heck, you ought to join their party.

I actually carry my birth certificate around with me. If states did a better job in requiring that only citizens or legal residents got drivers licenses, my PA license would suffice.

Do you have any numbers that support that claim? Nah it wasnt swing voters turned off by corruption and Iraq that cost us the election it was the three or four conservatives that actually stayed home that did it. Sure that makes sense.

When this passes and Pres. Bush signs it look for a massive tax increase to follow. There will have to be one to pay for the new massive welfare programs not to mention new schools (with Spanish speaking teachers), new medical facilities and prisons. As a welfare state we can not afford the huge influx of new citizens that will be placed on the rolls. It isn't like we will be getting the best and the brightest!

I have to present ID whenever I get a new job to show I'm a citizen or legal resident. Do you have a problem with that? You seem to be raising issues normally only raised by hard-core Libertarians about presenting ID during basic contractual transactions such as getting a new job.

I don't know what kind of work you do, but I'd venture I've had more jobs than you have and I have yet to have to show proof of citizenship OR legal residence.

And I just incorporated another business and didn't have to show jack.
