Eyebrows arched Tuesday night when Chris Matthews missed his wife's WJLA farewell party. Kathleen Matthews told partygoers her husband was sick: Turns out the "Hardball" host was in the hospital.

A source close to the talking head told us yesterday that Matthews, 60, fell ill on Monday. He later checked into a local hospital because of complications . . .

MSNBC publicist Jill Schwartz yesterday said, ". . .He's doing fine."

It's pretty obvious that he ate himself into a case of adult-onset diabetes.

While I don't wish anything bad for anyone, Matthews is a scum of the earth and despicable for his unwilling to challenge a kook that called for our Presidents assassination and actually agreed with him. He's also beyond pathetic for the way he hounded and harassed Rove when Rove did no wrong doing. If he dies and goes to heaven he better not try to play "Hardball" with God.

I saw Matthews on C-Span years ago talking to a group of high school kids, and he was incredibly arrogant and nasty to them. These were just kids, and he was actually acting like a punk with a chip on his shoulder. As they used to say, he's a "wise-guy."
