John Kerry was in Vietnam for a grand total of 48 days

That was a crappy salute too. If Kerry ever wanted to PROVE how little he had in common with the military, that salute did it. Sorta like Dukakis in a tank. WAY out of his element.

It's someone else's observation/remark. I just borrow it when appropriate. Unfortunately, due to poor memory, I can't credit the wag who so clearly summed up the situation.

What a great time it was...it's always great to go and see all of that patriotism on display.

I was at the Army/Navy game 2 yrs ago.

Air Force One did a low flyby (and the crowd cheered loudly.)

When Dubya appeared on the field, he graciously spent time with the Mids and Cadets, mugging for photos and and chatting with the brigades of both teams.

The mutual respect between President Dubya and our excellent students from the Academies was palpable and electric.

I can also guarantee that Hillary and Barak would neither give nor receive such mutual regard.

Not to defend Kerry, but the river boat duty wasn't a picnic. I found that out first hand, though I loved every minute of it.

From what I read though, when Kerry volunteered for that duty, they were not yet assigned to the rivers, but were doing coastal patrols only. When he got his assignment and the river patrols began, he freaked, because he thought he had been signing up for a much less dangerous duty.

If this is true, he warrants no defense.

You know... politics... if you make the most of it, you work hard, you use some common sense, and you make an effort to be patriotic, you can do well. If you don't... you get stuck as the ski-bum-boy-toy of a gin-soaked ketchup dowager.

Fabulous pictures of extraordinary men. Truly worthy of "one picture is worth a thousand words." Thanks for sending them along for all of us to share. They truly provided a lift in spirits. Prouder than ever of our servicemen and women.

IMHO, this nation owes a great debt of gratitude to the Swiftboat vets.

Indeed...from way back then and now, too.

Every time I see that salute, I choke! You don't give a sloppy, missing-the-mark salute at such a defining moment!!!

Kerry said EXACTLY this about when the mission of the swift boats changed after he went to swift boat school -- in a book HE wrote in 1986. "I had NO desire to get into the war"
