Tributes to Sasha Litvinenko, the sob story spy, are on all the tearstained pages of the UK tabloids today.
Probably the Daily Mail drivels it best. He was honest, courageous, loving husband . . . etc.
Blimey. You would never know he was a devious little toe-nail puller from the KGB. Or that his patron, Boris Berezovsky - not mentioned by the Daily Mail - is a gangland legend, veteran of countless contract hits. Or that his closest associate is an even scarier Chechen terrorist, Ahmed Zakayev.
Probably the nicest thing you can say about Alexander Litvinenko is that he was a raving loony, as his (hitherto unread) ravings in the Chechen press testify.

You seem to love this Putin apologist. Everything he writes is pro soviet. His website reads like DU.
Ping
Actually, I saw the title and thought this has got to be about that guy...I couldn't remember Morris' name. I went to Yahoo and entered "Toe Sucker" and the fourth entry was Dick Morris, so here he is.
How do you get all that out of my observation the writer is a Putin butt buddy?
Putin told him all about it perhaps? ;)
What you are doing is defending a gangster who has put out lots of contract hits and a Chechen terrorist. Let the guilty party be found, and hung, but at least don't let your hate and bigotry blind you to all of the evidence.
Ahhhh "come to my room Dimitri.."
Wait Im defending a gangster....and your defending the angel Putin. (snort)
Given his previous Employment in Russia, it is a sure thing that Litvinenko was not a human rights advocate, at least not in his earlier career. Chances are he did things on the order of pulling those toenails or supervised the toenail-pullers.The horror is not that he would be poisoned but that the Russian State has not changed a heck of a lot in its dealings with dissidents or other inconvenient people in the last couple of centuries.
That's a bald faced lie. The article does not say one thing about Putin.

Give 'em hell,Gary !
This interesting story was in the NY Times today:
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/02/world/europe/02spy.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin
It appears there was some pretty widespread contamination following these folks around - but I'm having trouble imagining the little invisible FSB elves who seem to be dusting everybody with radioactive powders-and who knew in advance (somehow) that Litvinenko would be having the soup and a plate of sushi. (Curse those Russian spies !!)
is that people are pointing to Putin, when, he claims, its actually the Russky mob thats responsible.
Why would the mob kill all Putin enemies?
Sasha Litvinenko, considering his history (well, I only know what I read in the newspapers, what do I know), died well and probably with a great deal more mercy than he ought to have been shown.
I suppose the great bulk of his private and public transactions were no worse than, say, that of a New Jersey Dem'crat operative. He may have crossed a line a couple of times, but what the heck, in the heat of the moment, it gets a little hard to remember the boundaries, and who hasn't done that?
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Is it the only alternative? Either you blindly believe in every allegation against anybody or you believe that everybody is an angel?
Putin is a good man and a patriot, but he cannot be an "angel". "Angels" do not get to lead great countries. Any country.
The reason why it is obvious to the unprejudiced people that Putin is not responsible for this poisoning is that different target, different method and different time would be chosen if he were to be involved. Also because the poisoning of Litvinienko provides a perfect too for bashing Russian adminsitration.
Just to appease your thirst for blaming Putin I will give you one example where he might be responsible - assassination of Yandarbiev in Qatar
This operation was done by simple methods, had clear political objective and was conducted in the country with a little clout.
On the other hand poisonings of Litvinienko and Yushchenko have the footprint of people who are sick, deranged and with dreams of power. They are not people capable to rule and they must be akin to the revolutionaries described by Dostoevsky in Possessed (or Devils).
Do you want to find the real culprits? Read this novel and look for the people who match the profile of book characters.
