Investors fled SCO Group’s stock on Friday, voting with their feet after a federal judge gutted its lawsuit against IBM.

In mid-morning trading, SCO Group (nasdaq: SCOX - news - people ) traded at $1.36, down 64 cents, or 32%.

On Thursday, the judge said SCO Group had provided no evidence to support its claim that IBM (nyse: IBM - news - people ) took code from Unix, which SCO claims to have some copyrights, and added it to Linux.

SO what do you think about the fact that FreeRepublic.com runs... LINUX ?!?

Don't believe me? See for yourself.

Since I'm reading FR on a box running Linux right now, I think it's fine. :-)

Yep! Fedora Core 4 myself, on an HP X2000 (Pent4).

Cheers!

This case isn't over, and even if it was it's not the end of legal challenges Linux faces, the senior counsel for the FSF has already publicly admitted there are around 300 possible patent infringements in the Linux kernel alone. I find it rather disgusting to see Americans (?) so openly supporting a foreign clone of US UNIX over the original American product, but some people just don't care about anything much other than what they can get for themselves, especially for "free", or at least Richard Stallman's version of it.

You need to add that Linus is a foreigner.

I take it that you continue to support scam artists (SCOx management) of the first order? They sure are patriotic American role models to emulate aren't they?

Give me a break. They are a bunch of pathetic losers without technical skills just doing the system abuse that most of the rest of us won't.

Are you trying to claim IBM didn't destroy SCO's UNIX business, by breaking their partnership, and having some of the same exact Unix programmers start working on Linux instead? Maybe it will be proven legal, but IBM did destroy their business, and this was their only recourse. In fact, I would bet SCO feels in many ways they got their payback to IBM, even if they do lose. Linux remains a clone of Unix, put together mostly by the foreigner Tovrvalds and the leftist Stallman, no matter what.

Scox's UNIX business has been destroyed by suing their own customers. There wasn't much business to start with as SCOx and it's predecessors had been milking a cash cow while it lasted. SCOx' previous business plan (for quite a few years) had been to build a customer base using Linux and GNU software. As that wasn't working well, they decided to get some new management and try to shake down IBM and the Linux user base (a business model that had worked before for a couple of them).

Scox destroyed their own business and represent the worst of American Innovation - new legal theory development.

If all Americans did was to run legal lottery scams instead of developing new, improved and innovative technology, it wouldn't make a bit of difference what Linux's source was/is. We'd be like Nigeria. So go ahead and continue to favor the scammers and their support for the legal profession which in general doesn't care a wit about American industry or national security (just see who they fund during elections.

IBM helps the US economy much more than SCOx ever did or would. Legal scammers should be repulsed in the best interests of American innovation. SCOx are clearly among the worst abusers of the legal system. Linus and Stallman have nothing to do with SCOx trying to hit the lottery. SCOx are mere charlatans

Golden Eagle Simulator v.01

Needs a patch, doesn't mention anything about Stallman.

Smart money abandoned the ship when it realized that Santa Cruz Operation

Pet peeve of mine: That's "The SCO Group," not "Santa Cruz Operation." Santa Cruz Operation changed its name to Tarantella years back. Don't worry, the confusion was purposely planned by The SCO Group.

Technically true, but misleading. The story of your posting history (on those occasions where what you wrote is actually technically true).

Long time no hear GE. You still haven't retracted your libel and your lie from a while back.

There's a very important bit of history in between that. Caldera bought the UNIX business from SCO in order to get the big enterprise UNIX distribution channels so they could use those to push Linux. Unfortunately for them, IBM decided to start pushing Linux through its massive enterprise distribution channels, creating competition for enterprise Linux sales that The SCO Group couldn't beat.

So, basically, The SCO Group couldn't compete in the enterprise Linux market, so it tried competing in court instead.

You're the one with the documented history of lying, defending Russian hackers etc. You even admitted to doing it, on purpose for months. This latest incident you must be referring to you were defending Howard Dean and the DNC, so don't expect any apologies LOL.

Are you trying to claim IBM didn't destroy SCO's UNIX business,

Caldera's change of management destroyed its business. Santa Cruz and IBM were fine before Darl McBride swooped in.

by breaking their partnership,

IBM partnered with Santa Cruz, not TSG/Caldera. The contract gave IBM the legal right to cancel it.

and having some of the same exact Unix programmers start working on Linux instead? Maybe it will be proven legal..

Since when has it been illegal to re-use your own copyrighted code?

Linux remains a clone of Unix...

No, it's not a "clone". There is no Unix code in Linux. TSG spent three years trying to come up with copied code and couldn't find any. All they could do was latch on to some ridiculous "methods & concepts" theory which doesn't hold water because they can't prove THAT either without similarities in the source code.

SCO is sunk... and so are you.

Dude, he wasn't Russian. That was the point, playing on your fear and ignorance.

his latest incident you must be referring to you were defending Howard Dean and the DNC

I never defended Howard Dean. I, like the rest of us, simply refused to politicize OS choice, unlike you and Howard Dean. The apology you owe is over calling me a liar for saying Planned Parenthood runs Windows (which ruined your point). The correction you owe is for saying The SCO Group was a UNIX company ruined by Linux.

Of course I don't expect any apology or correction. Apologizing and taking back false comments are things that that an honest and moral person would do.
