And lately I've even been too busy to either read or ping my lists.
But I can't help thinking about this family, so I keep checking to see if he's been found.
I hope his sweater was wool.
My thoughts too.
We had a huge huge apple crop this year on the coast and still a few on the tree (unheard of) but the local ranchers say they have had some very happy cows eating all those apples.
Deer have been happy too.
No berries though. Huckleberries are earlier in the year IIRC.
Hmmm pretty bare for food had a rat come up to my bedside window last night and that is rare meaning the lil fellow is getting brave if he is that hungry.
I don't keep anything out, even in the garage that the varments could eat or use as nesting material however I just put the uncut pumpkins out by the window where Jr. rat showed up....maybe he was eyeing them.....or maybe I am going to go to a ball to dance with a Prince....(kidding)
Remember the little guy who I think was slighty autistic who was lost and never found around Crater lake a couple of months ago?
The family just had a memorial for closure I suppose.
That news story still weighs on my mind, and the optimism was not as high as it is with james.
Yes, I remember, and saw that in the paper the other day.
I just wish "city people" knew how dangerous the forested mountains can be if you're stuck there with nothing. I won't elaborate but there are other dangers besides cold and snow and steep cliffs.
Lions and bears and wierdos.
I get your drift.
I hear amtrak has a wonderful scenic trip through the Gorge and you can if able to pay the bucks can travel in a privat room.
That to me is the way to see the countryside.
Or with a pro guide on a day trip.
I did the mail box boats on the Rogue one year and that was allot of 'nature fun' and the end of the water trail was a hike up to a family home lunch break.
My son is the Humboldt County rep for the Blue Ribbon Coalition battling to keep roads and trails open...
Good!
That IS public access land after all.

Oh I just had this weird feeling while watching news that God willing James will be found before night fall.
I can't imagine the pain in his heart for his wife and kids not knowing they have been rescued and he is fervently trying to get help.
Lord hear all those Prayers going up around the nation for this family. Amen.
{{ Kim told Lee that once they were out of the snow, and in the rain, they parked, leaving the motor running so they could use the heater. "They thought they could spend the night and somebody would find them in the morning," Lee said. "But then, when they woke up, it was snowing quite heavily. They were stuck." By then they didn't have enough gas to get back to Grants Pass. }}
I agree, this was their fatal mistake. First, if they wanted to turn around, they should have wiggled out a turn on the road they were on, not traveled down a side road for 2 miles. They must not have realized that this was a true wilderness area, and that there were no houses around. I can't imagine parking all night, with the engine running, instead of driving back the way they came. Not a good decision.
I am praying they find James soon!
Yup, the two legged weirdos not so common up there this time of year, at least not the meth cooker types. It's the four legged variety I'm worried about.
I have the sinking feeling that the father has not been back to the car, as promised, because he is dead. Otherwise, he should have made it back by now(?).
"Lions and bears and wierdos."
Oh my.
(Sorry, couldn't resist)
I had that fleeting thought, but dismissed it. I am afraid, however, that he might be hurt.
A few more notes:
~~~~~
" ... Kati Kim might lose one toe because of the cold, her father, Dr. Phil Fleming, told The Associated Press on Tuesday as he and his wife, Sandy, awaited a flight to Oregon from Albuquerque, N.M. He said his daughter breast-fed the two children to keep them nourished during the ordeal and "the children are doing extraordinarily well."
"You think about a soldier being killed or an individual in a car accident, and you often time wonder how difficult that is," said Fleming, of Gallup, N.M. "But take a whole family and subject two kids to it _ it's just unbearable."
....
State Police Lt. Gregg Hastings said Kati Kim told a detective the family intended to take Oregon 42, the usual route from Interstate 5 to the south Oregon coast, but they missed the turnoff, found Bear Camp Road on the map and decided to take it instead of turning back. Their car was found 15 miles from Bear Camp Road. ..."
{I'm not sure that last statement is correct, but I guess it *could* be. It is my understanding that their car was found at the Bear Camp Viewpoint turnout, which is *on* Bear Camp Road (Nf-23 or Nf-33) or Galice-Agness Road and 4-5 other names.
It's hard to imagine that they drove 15 more miles up that logging trail from the main road, but that does seem to square more with the other coordinates I got from the poster earlier in the thread - depending on which direction we're talking about.)
Sorry to hear about Kati, but such an overall blessing, it seems like a small problem. Prayers continue for James - who, by the way, I just read is from Louisville, KY, originally - graduated from HS there, anyway.
They are now reporting that the searchers have found a pair of pants that belonged to James Kim
Oh no!
It should be easy to coordinate the father's likeliest whereabouts.
The point of departure (where the car was found)
Direction.
Walking speed, based on: Weather & terrain conditions and Subject's condition.
Who is reporting the finding of Kim's pants?
